    Hello, blackhatworld.

I've been freelancing web development and digital design for about a year. I have a couple of good clients, like a bi-monthly magazine, which create a little revenue but I want to work on my own projects, not other peoples.

I'm going to start by making a Niche website over winter break and do some viral marketing. Is this a good first step?

    Niche ideas:

-urban style/dope "stuff" - basically content for teenagers with disposable income (maybe rap/hip hop)
XXL mag + High Times + ifandco

    - medical supplies for baby boomers
    catheters + diabetes needles

    - Apocalypse Supplies
Info Wars x Doomsday Preppers x Harvest Moon

    -
    Cute Pinterest Style / Etsy-ish
*puke* don't really want to do this - maybe work with some stores in my area

Totally open to critics, suggestions, words of warning, or encouragement. Think I'm heading in the right direction?

In regard to ethics, I recognize no floor or ceiling since all systems (besides utilitarianism) appear to be social constructs. If your making money, someone is loosing money. But you gotta play by the rules. No amount of money is worth the poop storm that ensues once the feds get involved with your business.

    Interests: Social dynamics, emerging media,

My short term goal is to make enough money to move out of my parents basement to a nice apartment. I need like $1500 a month to move out and continue paying for school. I'm currently making about $500-$1000 a month from existing clients.

Long Term Goal: I want to not only create a career for myself but also create jobs for other people, maybe start a digital media agency.

    Question:

How illegal is it to copy content from one site to another?

    How about pictures?

It depends on the content copyright. Some content can be shared freely but most content that is produced on websites is copyright for the owner. Copying this content won't exactly get you arrested just a letter or warning from the copyright owner / legal team. It is not recommended to copy content post Google update you will not rank good, by all means use the content to create your own unique content. Make your content fresh and unique and you should start ranking.
