How do free trial lead payouts work?

I see offers all the time that have massive lead payouts. Like literally $30 per lead. The person just has to sign up for a free trial of the product and pay the shipping costs.

    Is it really that simple?
The person orders a free trial and you get $30??

Sounds TGTBT. There must be something Im missing.

Yeah it's called back-end monetization. After the trial period (usually 15 days but it can be more or less) that person is automatically charged a fee (which is pretty big) if he hasn't returned that trial product & canceled the subscription. So, technically they pay you $30 but make way more after a few days, weeks.
By the way, I've seen advertisers paying even $45/lead for trial products. ;)

yeah i was wondering about this too. like the acne products that have a free trail. so practically I just have to get people to sign up for a free trial and pay for shipping and than i get the 30? or do i have to wait until they keep the product or something?

Ahhh you didn't read the very-fine print? I guess thats the point of fine print...

Almost all high paying free trials will charge the users credit card $60-$90 when the 7 or 14 or 30 day trial expires and they will continue to charge monthly until canceled.

Another thing I noticed on a lot of the 7 day trials there may be a 48 hour delay to process your cancellation... So if you cancel 5 days into it, you could still get charged that $80...

    for example
    https://ssl.encryptedprocessing.com/~pdfh/index.php?refer=z10&pubid=&subid=500001
(btw not my aff link, I just found it on offervault)

Notice right below the CC submit the is some fine print? The spell out the number and dont have dollar signs so I am sure barely anyone notices or reads it.

Also if you take a look a the TOS it take 2 bossiness days to cancel....

Another little trick they use on a lot of sites is giving out 1 month supplies of whatever product for 14 days trials which makes the user think the trial is 30 days when its not...

I saw one trial that charged $180/month after the trial was over lol...

Assuming everyone is acting above board, then you get paid whether or not they cancel. If your cancellation rate is abnormal then that may be another story.

OOO I get it. This is like FLR. The freebie sites pay me for my referrals right away. If the person cancels the trial they go red (dont count as a referral no more) but the freebie site doesnt take the money that they have given me back. so practically it is the same thing since the aff networks pay the freebie sites and the freebie sites pay me. DAMN SO FREEBIE SITES MAKE A LOT OF MONEY!! GOD DAMN I NEED TO MAKE A FREEBIE SITE lol

yeh tons of the acai companies got nailed in the media for deceptive processes like this. They charge like $5 for shipping and then hit you with a $60 fee or something crazy and it's near impossible to call them up and cancel (according to news stories).

what if they cancel before the trial is up?

like as soon as they submit their order or whatever? would it still count as a quality lead?

the freebie scene is just that, people sign up for a free trial with Luvfilm and we get paid £17- £20 for each person, which in turn lets the "give-away" network send free stuff out like ipods and stuff, so it does work and iv'e earned over £15,000 from it :)

I own a porn incentive site and I am an affiliate for a company that pays for free trials (I haven't uploaded the offers to my site yet because I just got approved...LOL...).

However, I think it's a lot easier to cancel a porn membership site than it is to print out a form, run to the post office to mail it, etc...or take the product, repackage it, and pay $x to ship it back to the manufacturer...

Plus, many people, IMHO, will most likely convert to at least a 1 month membership after the trial is over for porn because...well...it's PORN!

Not Gevalia Coffee, not Netflix, not that Acai Berry bullshit, not Free Credit Report, etc...

That's the gamble the companies that offer free trials are taking...

Hoping the consumer "forget" to cancel or enjoy the trial so much that they keep the membership because like many people on here said...

These companies make their money in the long run....

    Hope this helps...

I would imagine the rate of people that forget/don't have time to ship back/ or don't get it back in time is very high

Although wouldn't you think for a free trial offer like **************** dot c0m that many people would forget to cancel because they are getting charged for a virtual service (enrollment in triple advantage)?

I think way fewer people would cancel the free credit report offer because they dont have a huge box of acai juice landing at their front door every month to remind them of the $60 statement on their CC billing statement. LOL... but i'm totally serious about this-

Does anyone think my theory is correct? Please post and let us know what you think of my opinion, as i dont want to kid myself about this.

EDIT: To clarify my theory better, what my logic is telling me is that: Most people won't notice a 9.95 charge on their credit card bill every month when they're NOT being sent anything TANGIBLE such as a box of penis pills or a jug of acai juice-

The only thing they are getting is membership in a website that they will never visit, considering they didn't read the fine print that stated that they're going to be enrolled in Triple Advantage credit monitoring, which is a totally invisble nontangible service/product.

I would think most people would never notice a 9.95 charge on their CC statement, since most people are $1000s in credit card debt anyway. It is my theory that most people who receive the free credit report would not cancel their subscription to the triple advantage program they enrolled in without knowing it.

Please leave some input on this! If i have just threadjacked this thread, please let me know so that i can start another thread solely about this subject. Thanks!
