I am not sure if you guys know about this, just google register.com + free domain promo. You can register a new domain for one year but you need a credit card (try vccs) and a new email address for each new domain you want to create. I have over 100 domains now . Great for affiliate sites edit: you can use the same credit card for each domain but you need a different email address.

How difficult (or easy) is it to switch after a year?

It will take you some time to cancel 100 domains or your card will be robbed
