Guys 1and1 is horrible! Wait til you want to drop the domain, they will automatically renew it and if you don't pay, you will get threatened by them.

Their control panel assumes you are retarded and helps make you that way if you aren't.
Everything they do takes 24 hours. Buy a domain? Wait 24 hours to use it. Need to change the DNS to another host? Tack on another 24 hours. Want to add hosting to that domain? Tack on 24 hours.
The ONLY good thing about 1 and 1 that I could find is that they give free privacy guard. Whoopee. I'd rather pay namecheap the extra couple of bucks because their service doesn't suck gonads.
They don't charge your CC instantly at 1and1 so that is why they want one that expires later. Otherwise, you could sign up for the free domain, order a bunch of other stuff and then never pay.
They are a bit of a pain in the ass (as mentioned above) but for anyone starting out, they offer you a lot of stuff at a low price. Their domain prices go up to $8.99 in November so they will lose a lot of business from people who go to them for cheap domain names.

They are incredibly slow at processing domain registrations, changing dns info and anything in between. On the plus side, they are dirt cheap and have free private registrations which is why I use them, because I am cheap and like things that are free.

Exactly. Look up the reviews for 1and1 in google.
Sign up for a free domain with creditcard and paypal, then next year they automatically renew it, yes even if you hit the option not to autorenew.
Or
You don't pay for the renew, and 1and1 will automatically renew you and give you a letter saying, if you don't pay the fines, they will send their lawyers after you..

I am not going to sit and promote 1and1 because there are some obvious drawbacks. But I do have to say that they don't just keep charging and charging you....
When you sign up for the free domain, they tell you from the start that your card will be charged I think $6 and then they refund it...just like most other sites do when they are verifying your card. It may bit higher than the rest but you get it back so it is no big deal in my mind.
The biggest pain in the ass is cancelling the domain if you are done with it so I encourage anyone who registers with them to learn how to use cancel.1*and1.c0m. As soon as you register your domain, you can go right in there and slect to turn off the auto-renew feature and it will not renew your domain. If you don't adjust anything, they will renew it in one year.
They will track you down if you don't pay though so be sure to keep your CC details up to date. I got a collection letter one day because my expiry date on my card passed. That being said, if you are new to the business and don't have a big budget, look for the deals at 1and1 and just stay on top of things and you will be fine.

Its why ppl need to use P*ypal. Jjust remove them from your list and they cannot get money from you
