I found a perfect domain for my new website I am building. I did some investigating around the domain and noticed it was used (2 years ago) for almost the exact same type of website I want to build.

Does anyone know what is the best way to go about this? Would it be OK to buy the website and just use it for my site and not have to worry about the previous owners coming back and C&D my project? Not sure if they copyrighted anything pertaining to the domain name.

I don't think anyone with copyright will let domain expire. You can Google about the project in Google and see how authentic or legal it was.

You need a bit of research and then you are good to go if you don't find anything solid, if its something big you are setting up i will recommend to get copyright for yourself so you don't face issues in future (its just added protection but completely optional as per your business needs).

Good luck!

Thanks, did some more digging and see they had a pretty sketchy exit from the business, don't want to be anyway tied to that, sucks.

Is it brandable domain.

You can search for copyright.

If there is no copyright, you can grab it.
