I was driving home today and was thinking about a post MeatHead made. It was a great post and I was wishing there was a way to do more than just Rep and Thanks.

I thought about a form of micro payments where I would have money in my account and I could "Tip" him for a good post. I could tip him any amount I wanted from 1 cent to $50 or anything in between.

I see two possible ways this can be run.

    1. The "Tip" link takes you directly to a paypal checkout page.
    2. The "Tip" is transferred from your account to their account.

#1 takes more time and that would stop people from using it if you had to log into paypal every time.
#2 relies on the forum owner not to take the money and run.

What do you think? Other ideas? I thought about trying to develop this, but I'd rather pass it on to someone who has experience and can get it done since a vBulletin addon would benefit me as well.

What are you talking about? With a payment system, you would pay the person who is writing a good post, and only if you wanted to. This would encourage higher quality posts.

Yeah but do you think meathead needs a micropayment? My point is not about that, but more about its effect. If this would be implied, the very next day you will see tons of new people popping out with rehashed material, it would be like making a forum out of all wso's rehashed, lots of copy pasta and so on.

Remember that BHW is where we learn and shake hands, not where we **** :) But I do appreciate OP for trying to make a better place, but IMO it's good as it is already.

That's a good point, you would get a lot of copy/paste stuff. I wasn't talking about BHW only, just a vbulletin addon that allowed micropayments.

I did think the post was worth of some money, and he made the post without expecting any compensation which made it even worth more money. :)

Pretty sure this plugin already exists. It's called "buy me a beer" or something like that. I can't seem to find it but I'm sure it exists.

The others are right though - any financial incentive for posting usually reduces quality rather than increase it. There would be a lot more copy/pasting and noobs begging for donations.

Btw, I accept check or credit card :)
