For my Indian member friends here who have an account with HDFCBank or are planning to get a new account there:

As you know, HDFCBank had taken off the Netsafe section from its site for the past few days in name of up-gradation... well, today the site has removed the Netsafe entirely, and has this section in its place:

    Verified by Visa/ MasterCard SecureCode

Does it means that we cannot have the earlier facility to create Netsafe VCC for international payments like before?

How can we now pay for our domains and hosting which are offshore? How can we purchase those small items that were available to us before? While the ministers and "babus" can have accounts in foreign banks, Swiss banks especially, and can buy any overseas thing openly, can illegally transact millions of Dollars and Pounds to various overseas agents like there is no tomorrow for them, those same people are making the life of small-time internet-marketers' lives extremely difficult...

Seems like its time to move on to another bank... bye bye, HDFC bank.

Have you tried looking at that site today in this respect (Netsafe VCC)?

Looks like the FM is getting a huge itch once again, and once too often.

    Thanks!

I request BHW to have an India office to help us pay in equivalent local currency for getting the Donor status or the Jr VIP status easily. That would be some relief for our Indian members...

True that srb... It sucks to lose an amazing service.. Icici and others too have VCC to offer bt the i guess we can't generate daily like HDFC.

Best alternative at the moment is ICiCI with QIWI.

I have a SBI account but its VCC is same as that of HDFCbank's: not capable of international purchases. Other private banks like ICICI, Axis... if HDFC bank has been throttled/strangled by our F!n Min!stry, then it's only a matter of time for those others to die on us.

Indians cannot pay (to anyone) using Paypal. One needs a real CC, but its a real PITA to first have AND then manage a CC in India...

Also, We might be the reason for them shutting down. I had my paypal accounts tanked due to abuse even bhw recieved a DMCA for one of my BST. The vcc was gaining a lot of attention only for abuse and I already had it coming.

If its only paypal for which you need vcc's check entropay...

You and others here cannot be the cause! You all are not even the tip of the huge icegerg called international payments through Netsafe VCC. It's the rotten policies of the ex-f*m and this new one. Both have strangled us and the banks, but let themselves away in the process. They think we small-time IM'ers are causing the money laundering? They are, with just one phone call or snap of fingers, they can tranfer millions of dollars...

Imagine: one day I went to the local bank branch (UBI) and asked for the withdrawal slip (to withdraw some money from my son's account where I also am a joint account holder; and those clerks know us personally since ages!!), the clerk said they have stopped the facility of withdrawal slip because of money laundering being done through that!!!! WOW! I wanted to spit on his face then! :)

    Santhu,

    Thanks!

I have Entropay account and have used it before... but that was almost around 3 years ago. I don't know how I can upload those min. $20 plus their fees to their site now. I have SBI account, as well as this now-useless HDFC Bank account.

Also, if I want to purchase anything international, using the guest Paypal option, can I use Entropay VCC there successfully? If you don't mind my asking, please tell me how recently have you tried this type of payment (guest Paypal payment process)? The last time I tried Netsafe VCC and guest PP payment some weeks ago, the payment didn't go through...

    P.S.:

Will the SBI Visa/Mastercard debit card (VBV) be able to upload funds in USD ($20 min) to Entropay?

Feels bad to me too.. I've been using netsafe for more than a year for domains, hosting, etc. Glad I've got a real CC before this happen.

But I still see "temporarily closed" message hope they will come back

Well, paypal and our banks really sucks. I have a visa card and tried to add it to my paypal but they didn't let me add. There was some error with the address, I cross check so many times and the address was right. Another thing, I tried once to pay through my brothers credit card (standard chartered) and guess what, no payment made and still they charged $1 from the account. I think this is all because of the RBI guidelines for serices like paypal.
I've made international payment using visa card via Payza and they are really good. But again payza is not widely accepted. It really sucks because I get payment in dollars then they change it to inr keeping 3.5% and then I have to make payment in usd, again 3.5% currency conversion. In this whole process we loose enough money and just because of our idiot govt.

Wow, news came just in the right time. I have ICICI, but had heard it's easy with HDFC and thought would open an account there, but not any more.

Thanks, Springfire. Sorry, my Thanks button has temp. disappeared.

I sincerely hope that Netsafe, in its earlier form, comes back soon. But the earlier message about Netsafe getting upgraded, and the visible radio-button link has disappeared. Only a deeper link exists about Netsafe, but those people may not be aware that the link still exists... it may disappear soon.

Best way to get a CC is to deposit an FD in 4 - 5 banks of say 25k each and get a CC against that FD. with 80% limit.

i have not used axis bank's VCC but will try to generate and use one now.

EDIT: Axis bank VCC does not work for overseas purchases.

Can anyone confirm whether one from ICICI works

You don't lose money due to the govt., you lose money to the banks. This 3.5% is their markup on the exchange rate, that's how treasuries of the bank make such huge amount of profits but again banks need to keep a lot of records for each transaction and have to invest a lot of money in the software system and human checks.

You won't believe the amount of records needed to be kept for audit records by RBI and also internal audits at the bank. So, a big share of this 3.5% goes towards the cost in making the transaction.

Just pray that bitcoin becomes widely accepted in the IM business and all the IMers are then not forced to pay banks for currency conversion each time they do a transaction.
