I have learned so much here on BHW, many things that I had not even thought of before and by putting my own twist on them I have managed to set up quite a few decent money making projects.

I thought that I would share the way I build my niche sites. These are used for adsense, affiliate offers and selling links (yes selling links, oooh how bad). I am just breaking into CPA and this process is down for me now. I create a site, build it up and let the money come in. I pay tax and then put ALL of the remaining funds into building new sites.

There is nothing new in this thread, it is all here on BHW. If you are just starting out though, follow along with your own site and learn by trying.

I?ll give an outline of what I do here and then update the thread (if anyone is interested) as the site reaches milestones.

Sorry, I won?t be giving the niche away, or the exact criteria I use, but I guarantee that if you try it you will soon learn to identify what to look for.

    1. Firstly I come up with a niche. I don?t look for anything popular, new, or of the moment. I do look for anything that people need. Where there is a need there is money. Really, these can be some of the most boring day to day things in the world, that is why they need to be advertised and that is why people will pay for space on your site.

    2. I then have a look at the figures in a keyword tool. Big-G?s keyword tool is fine. I am much more interested in searches than the CPC (remember adsense is only one part of the income).

    3. I pick one main keyword and three smaller ones.

    4. I look for an aged domain name which has at least some of my main keyword in it. If there is nothing then I get a new one. Controversial point: I have just as much success with .info as .com

    5. I get a logo designed (or do one myself)

    6. I have enough good quality articles written to last one year of irregular posting by a good writer.

Note: these two things should get you through any ?sandbox? manual review as your site is well-managed and actually useful to readers.

    7. Set up the site with wordpress (using a free theme which I tweak to ensure higher CTR), install SEO, sitemap, contact, privacy policy and anti-spam plugins. I then schedule the posts.

    8. Submit original articles to the main article directories.

    9. Set up twitter feeds (not sure I am going to do this anymore)
    10. Buy a small link-building package here at BHW, or via Elance.

    11. Wait for the site to be indexed

    12. Ad adsense

    13. See where the site is in SERPS. If it is within the first 3 pages then I let it age for a few months, if not then I?ll get a decent home page link PR4 or above to knock it up a bit.

    14. Wait, add links, wait , add links.

This might seem like a long process with a lot of waiting. You are right, there are three things which help earn you money in this business ? Waiting, testing and DOING. If you don?t do anything then you will never earn the money.

I?ll try and pre-empt a few questions here:

    Q. Isn?t this a lot of time and expense for an adsense site?
    A. Yes, I only plan to cover hosting costs in the first year, but after that it is passive income. There is nothing stopping you from doing all the steps yourself. I just pay people because I re-invest everything to speed up the building of my business.

    Q. Selling text links doesn?t that get you a SERPS penalty
    A. Not so far in two years for me. We are site owners, I love you big G, but why shouldn?t we be able to cover our costs?

    Q. What is so black hat about this?
    A. Nothing, it is one way to set up part of your overall income.

    Q. Are you some kind of expert.
    A. No I am a very simple guy. Anyone can do this with enough effort.

So enough talking. I?ll be posting as I go with the latest site. I?ll include a cost for each step and the amount of time I have spent on it. I?ll update on earnings for this one site every few months, so that you can see when it hits break even and then starts making money.

Once again, thank you to everyone on here who have posted over the years. I have learned more here than on any other single site. :beerchug:

Quick update today's tasks were to find and research the niche. This would normally take quite a few hours, as finding the niche is really the key task in the whole process. I must admit that I got lucky today, so only an hour of work was required. As I said in my earlier post boring things that people need.

I used a keyword tool (not saying which as I think they are probably all up to the job if you spend time using them) to make sure that there was good traffic numbers available.

I did a scan of the top 10 for my main keyword to check that they were not too heavily back linked, aged or updated too frequently.

Once happy with the above, I found an aged .com it was only a year old, but that is better than nothing. It contains part of the main keyword so that is cool with me. Bought and registered for a year (note: I will renew this for 3 years as soon as we are sure this site will work)

I have also booked my writer in to write 30 articles on the subject, 5 of those for a fast delivery (these will not be included in costs until I pay the bill).

Godaddy auctions mostly, but I am open to suggestions if anyone has a better place.

I have found godaddy to be fine TBH, well, other than the mad upell, but we all have to make money right? Bob Parsons video blog is worth checking out too while you are there.

Update: The aged domain has now been transferred.

I also got the first four articles from my writer, only to find that she had done a cut and paste job for them, changing only a few words here and there. I really hate it when people try to rip you off especially as I was paying a much better rate than she would get anywhere else. Anyway, she has been fired from the job.

Logo design is on order and I will have to either write the first batch of articles myself or find another writer.

My CPA advertures are still my main focus right now, so this small set back on this adsense site is a pain in the A.

Still, no money spent at this update

It's turning into a bad week. My logo designer let me down too! Anyway I got my GIMP book out and came up with something that looks ok in about 20mins.

I had some problems with wordpress yesterday which lost me around an hour.

I have decided to use some of the article writing services here on BHW before I decide if I shhould find another writer or not. The prices look fair, so it will be interesting to see the results. I'll post reviews in the relevant threads as and when the services are complete.

So, the site is up and I am now around stage 8 of the above plan. The site has been indexed however, so I might start link building today too.

    Limbo time here now.

It has actually been quite nice to have the oportunity to order a few more services than usual from the service section here at BHW. It has even made me think about expanding the services I provide (all currently offline marketed), but I just don't think I could match the prices.

As a side note I have been offered a couple of sites for sale today. The prices some people ask are just mad!

The other thing I am finding frustrating is waiting for the next PR update. I know it doesn't mean much to most people, but I have a few sites where the advertisers go nuts for it. I think my key sites should do well out of it too. I have the 15th of October down as the next update date (via my own calculation) but really there is only one company that knows and I sometimes wonder if they even REALLY know what is going on. I mean, I have worked in some big compaines and behind the scenes most of them just make it up as they go along ;)

Goodness, what a ramble! Sorry if you had to read through all that!

    Beer Time!

Any update? Are you posting articles on a regular basis and are you keeping track of time spent?
