follow back ratio vs quality of accounts following you?

I see lots of people concerned with follow back ratio but what does this matter if they are trash accounts following you back? (Unless you are just growing them to sell them) I have noticed I get higher follow back ratios when targeting larger accounts but when I actually look at the account following back so many of them seem like trash accounts. I seem to get better results targeting smaller accounts, my ratio is way lower but they seem more like real people based in the USA (my target market) that are actually interested in the content I post.

Also has anyone after a few months went through and blocked all the followers that have never interacted with a single post of yours? Does this help with engagement rate?

I completely agree. I am doing the same. I was at 30k gaining almost 300 followers a day but then I said fuck it and decided to change. Struggling to get 1k likes at 30k is ridiculous. There are people in my niche getting 5k likes at 4k followers... I was believing IG hated me for so long but that wasnt the issue, and I only made things worse thinking that.

People who follow you back from botting may be real, but they are SHIT. I ran a bot to scrape everyone who liked my photo for 21 days. It was only 4500 people...out of 30k.... I said fuck it, fuck the numbers and Imma remove everyone that isnt one of those 4.5k. If they hadnt liked a single one of my 21 photos, then they are just lurkers and can fuck off my account while it is so young.

Engagement will take time to return but there is one statistic that I have seen grow instantly. If you divide likes by total reach, you will see the rate of people who actually like your post IF they see it. So far that has increased by 5-10%. This is because most of those people gained from botting are lurkers or bots, so if IG only shows it to people who already like your account, more chance they will like it!

Yeah I have been looking more at the ratio of like to views then like to followers lately to. I think having around 5k followers is good just because it make your account look good and makes people want to follow you but besides that seems engaged followers is what i want.
 
no matter how good filters you set and sources that you use with all these software jarvee, mp .. big % of accounts that follow back are trash, bots or whatever and it seems impossible to avoid them. i grow accounts for some clients, and engagement they get is so bad.. no views for stories, minimum number of likes ( i not count the likes that come 1 time from new followers on last 1-2 photos ).. Well only hot girls get more likes but even they complain that most of followers are turkey, pakistan, india and some weird non relevant people, no offense to anyone. Targeting by locations is also bad and doesnt seems to work.. FB, twitter are already very hard or impossible to work with but now it seems IG is on the same path..

You can get English followers very easy. You just need to know the niche good
 
I cut half of my followers. HALF. My latest post just got 5k views from hashtags in less than 24 hours with 50+ % "werent following you".

This is more engagement than I have seen in MONTHS before with way higher followers. and the Post is pretty avg for me.

This is clearly evidence that over 75% of my so called "followers" were lurkers or bots. Its really about the long game and building momentum. I may post a thread on this if i can find some of my old stats to compare.

We all experienced this and still we do...So enough taking about the problem.
What's the solution?o_O
Does anyone know how to setup a bot to collect engaging followers and in the same time play by the Instagram rules (daily limits)?

one idea I have had is to scrape similar accounts comments and likes that are not to big and seem to have not used bots to build their accounts.
