If you using Yoast SEO plugin on WordPress, you will see below post the readability score according to flesch. The score drops down pretty fast depending on the words you are using. I was using pretty basic words but points were deducted due to them being "complex".

It seems like its best to just worry about the following guidelines they provide

Passive voice limit
20 words max sentences
Paragraph length
Transition phrase

Agreed - Don't compromise your content just to get a green score. I have plenty of orange (and even some red) readability scores with the plug in... but the content reads fine. If you are writing about technical stuff the plug in has a fit.

yes i agree, i tend to ignore readability on Yoast. you can actually spend more time trying to satisfy that than writing the post

Flesch is an extremely basic algorithm so the results it gives shouldn't be taken very seriously.

I still turn them green because the program is evaluating me and I want to pass :p

yeh it does take over a bit

Yeah it was all over the place and beeping me with all sorts of "helpful" shit.

Take your meds.

Have you had a walk today?

Hey you look angry, relax.

And then I uninstalled it.

you must have the basic version, the pro version asks you if you've eaten yet? and even books a table at a restaurant for you if you haven't

It seems like you can make 2-3 posts in the time you are making 1 that satisfies yoast.
yes you're right. the one thing that annoys me most is those stop word alerts. i was doing a post about The Wind in the Willows novel by Kenneth Grahame and it said stop words need to be removed. how can i change the name of the book?

That readability tab annoyed me so much even when I was convinced that the content read well. I put it through a bunch of readability tests and the results varied massively. It seems as though all of the tests had their own way of doing stuff..

However, this test worked best for me hemingwayapp dot com. I liked the way it worked, could copy paste text and as long as that was happy yoast always come out amber or better!

I have nothing to do with that site, just something I stumbled across that helped me out.

this site i use, it's a wordcount, spell checker, readability test etc and it's free

I use Grammarly. Got a premium account for free from a thread on this forum. Works well for me - plagiarism checker is good too.

How does it compare to the free version?

I've never used the free version. I only heard about it from a thread here a few months ago offering free premium accounts. It's essentially like spell check on crack. Checks grammar, sentence structure, spelling, repetitive words and plagiarism (which it is actually decent at picking up).

I may try the premium one after hemingway and the other free one. I tried the free version of grammarly and it was mostly a spell checker.
