Dude, you have almost 250 posts here and you haven't any idea? I'm not sure what you mean by 'going the seo route'...but I hope you don't mean you're going to start offering seo services.

I assume you want to build a site, so start with on-page seo, build original content, build some 2.0 tier sites, buy scrapebox and go to town...you can also do some social bookmarking, throw together a youtube video or two...

That should get you up and running while you figure out a strategy, but depending on your kw's and your comp, the 'shortest time' isn't always short.

First thing you've done wrong, atleast in my opinion...
When going for SEO, don't think "fast". SEO is more longterm..
Read up tutorials, methods, case studies etc.
Think smart, safe and longterm when going with SEO.

If you wan't fast traffic, go with facebook/youtube.

All tools have a learning curve, so if you don't want to spend sometime learning and testing outsource your work. I see you are building one site for now, outsourcing will be cheaper and faster than buying the software

Those questions can't easily be answered without more info. What are your goals for the site? Long term income? Quick profits? Are you willing to put in time to build an authority site? Looking to do a MNS? Do you have money to spend on outsourcing and services? Are you more interested in spending time doing it yourself(I'm guessing that one since you're talking about buying your own tools).

Honestly if you are asking that basic of a question about SEO then my first recommendation is before you buy any tools or even any domains for that matter... before you do anything... spend a bit of time on this section of the forum reading people's strategies. But set a time limit, say you'll spend a few days doing hardcore research and reading on here, but set a deadline for yourself to get started putting it into action so you don't get stuck in research mode and end up overanalyzing everying.

Are you a newbie and have simply bought this old account from somebody else? It's pretty hard to imagine for a guy to have 200+ posts yet asking how to get a good rank in Google.
