    Hi guys,

So I've been a lurker for about 3 months, trying to soak up all the wonderful info you guys post. Last night I tried my hand at making my first blog. I'm not trying to monetize at this point (especially using the content my blog is hosting.) I used a simple topic that has lots of news coverage since yesterday. I used content on mainstream sites and pasted it to my blog (gave credit to my sources.) I made a facebook and twitter account and made posts with links to my blog from each one. I also submitted my blog to reddit. As it stands today, my blog has no visitors and I did not receive one upvote on reddit. Can you guys please give me some pointers so I can at least get a few unqiue visitors? Once again, I am not trying to monetize in any way right now, just trying to figure out how to draw a crowd.

Well, first thing I'd recommend is NOT to use the current news events as your main content. People tend to want news of targeted, personal interest. National news is all entertainment gossip or headlines that they have already seen in everything from mainstream reports, to the latenight talk shows and tabloids.

Get something that gets people interacting with you and responding, posting a conversational interest in what you are doing and saying. With news style topics, you are heading yourself into the expectation of something spectacular, that I'm betting you aren't intending to take part in as a virtual shockjock.

Your best bet is to change up and target content of a niche and not something so open to interpretation by so many, making your the focus of your site instead of your wouldbe product or service you have yet to find. Currently, it is about you and your opinions/perspective on the news you've posted.

Change it to the focal point of product, service, articles, etc....i.e. - content.

Main problem here is the phrase "Last night I tried my hand at making my first blog".

    Last night???!!!

May I suggest that you are a little more patient, to see if your blog is liked by the search engines, or to practice your social network promotion skills.

Wow thanks for the quick feedback!

Is there an easy method to get added to a majority of those 1000 sites, or do I have to do it manually?

Thanks for the input about my niche. I spent some time thinking about my format and I realize that I need to throw in some opinion before anyone will pay me any attention. Is it common practice to run a blog that reviews products (for instance, something I already own)?

Yes, I know I should have patience. I guess its a bit difficult when I read threads about people who can get indexed in less than 24 hours. However, I should take into consideration those people are pros, that is what I am working towards.

Thanks for all the help guys!

PS I have six followers on twitter!

Content is king my friend. At least rewrite the article... If you have duplicate content Google will hate you.
