So I gathered around 15-30 business websites who desperately need a MOW (I visited each one on an Iphone) and are throwing down the drain thousands of potential dollars per month

I researched on the Google keyword tool and the amount of traffic these businesses are getting on mobile searches are insane! But I'm sure their not getting the full benefit of it because their website will take longer to load and is not mobile optimized, so more customers/sales lost

The point of this thread is to ask what would be the best way to let them kno about this big problem of theirs. Direct mail, email, straight up call? I haven't tested so I don't know which will work best, hence this thread to get your opinions. Should I induce fear? I mean obviously they should fear not having one and losing all those extra customers to other competitors, if someone has a proven way it'd be nice if you can share. Advice or anything absolutely welcome!

    :D

    Thanks

I don't have anything proven, but I would suggest direct mail with a followup call, and spin one of the various google places campaigns. Either send them a custom postcard or letter with screenshots of how horrible their site looks on mobile, along with a google keyword tool screenshot of how much traffic their target keyword gets monthly. You could also set up a sample mobile site, and either include a photo of it, or give them the link and tell them to visit it with their phone. Also consider including some object to use to make it into lumpy mail, or use some stickers on the envelope.

Are these local businesses where you can go visit them? Are they mom and pop businesses or are you going to have to climb a ladder to get to the right person?

That's exactly what I had in mind, I believe that would work well, having a screenshot of the site without it being mobile optimized, then to the right have a sample site I will create so he can see his own website mobile optimized. and I already have the screenshot of the Google keyword tool and I even suggested them to use the tool themselves to actually see!

I will have to get some dice like shown in 7878's post so that the mail won't get thrown away, although it will be USPS Priority mail. It will be highly customized to their business and is the envelope that will save them thousands a month

I will do a follow up call to them, and I will have a point in calling, If I'm going to spend money to get a message to them, they should know it's IMPORTANT.

Thanks for the advice, really appreciate it :)

I was trying to get some more details so I could tailor my response more to him, but my response would be the same as yours, IF the businesses are local.

If the businesses are in your city, and they're local, simply walk into the business with your iPhone in hand and show them their problem by showing them their website, then show them your mockup mobile website and explain how yours is going to convert more customers or whatever your pitch is.

If they are out of your local area, then the direct mailing would be my suggestion, print out a Google Adwords Keword report, and take a red pen and circle the checkbox that says "Mobile sites only" and then circle the keywords. Then print off their website as it appears on a smartphone, and then also how your MOW appears on one. Throw in a letter quickly explaining what you found and a call to action, follow up a few days later.

My third suggestion and more of a tip, if you want to reach a lot of businesses at once, and you have their email address, send each one (Address them all in a BBC field) that says

    "Hey,

I found a problem with your website, made a quick video about it, is this the right address to send it to?

    Thanks"

They'll usually all respond with, yes, please send the video! So, now you just need to screen record a quick video of showing how bad their site is, and give a quick example of how good yours looks.

    Best of luck.
