Mine just freezes up if open too many tabs. I didn't have this problem before the last update.

Could be due to all the add ons.

I have ad block and version 3.5

never seemed to have this problem back in 2008 with my old machine. I would sometimes have 13 widows open each with 20 tabs and not a single crash

On my tak manager I have seen firefox use 1,000,000 KB of memory but I have virtual memory set ot over 100 gigs

The same happened to me and even the latest version (3.5, I think) did come up with hiccups quite frequently for the short time I had it. I reverted back to the one I liked -- Firefox version 3.0 and it has served me extremely well. (I had reverted to 3.0 when the 3.2 began acting like a bit*ch on heat, but recently I tried the latest version so that I could try the latest add-ons... but even the 3.5 proved itself to be a bigger headache. So I am back on 3.0 and am very happy.)

Try the 3.0... it's very stable and you can still also use most of the add-ons. In fact, I didn't find any later version add-ons that I tried dying on 3.0. So I think the FF-3.0 can also serve you just as well.

True. I know of at least one add-on that absolutely screws Firefox -- G00gle Semantics. I don't know about others, but I experienced a complete degrade in Firefox when I had added it to FF.

It was after a search on Google that I came to knew about that add-ons' many ill-contributions and removed it, which immediately solved many problems. I then reinstalled that add-on just to test & verify that it was the reason for FF acting up, and sure FF became acting erratically again. So, you're right in a way.

Have you tried using Session Manager and grouping your tab sessions? So instead of having 30 at once you could swap out 10 at a time. I'm more comfortable having tons of crap open because I know sm will always recover them for me. It's great for crash recovery too: since sm can restore tabs you just closed it keeps track all the time. So if I close one by accident I can go to "recently closed tabs" and get it back, and if I crash sm has all the tabs (and windows!!!) of my last session waiting for me.

The first time I saw that in action I had 3 windows with 5-10 tabs each and froze and crashed. When I restarted Session Manager asked if I wanted to restore, I said yes, think it would just be the window I was looking at last. But no, it was the whole shebang. It looked like my PC was esploding. It opened every window and tab that I was in when I crashed.

Firefox 3.5 is just awful. I'm stuck with it though, as I'm on a pirated version of windows without internet explorer 8. Unfortunately, Chrome doesn't look like it's built for SEO tools.

You might want to try this program, which supposedly cleans up your cookies etc.

I just installed it, and I'm noticing a small increase in speed.

Could be a combination of things.

Memory in relation to your hard drive space and your virtual memory settings for starters.

You could also change the paging file to an alternate disk with more room etc.

It's "recommended" that your VM be 1.5 times your memory, but that's up to you.

ha! join the club. seems that all mozilla products are crashing -- both fr.fx and seamonkey crash often. but the old ones didn't.

do a google search on 'firefox crashes' and you will get many pages of complaints.
