Finding my feet in Internet Marketing

This will be a story about a lot more than SEO as it relates to both other kinds of sales and my general situation as a professional.

Im still struggling to make a living, but because of the progress I see it feel a lot more like "9 out of 10" than "nothing yet". I still needs progress but I have learned soooooo much during the last few years, and this might be a good place to share some of my experience.

My first feeble steps was taken back in 2008: bought a .com domain, cheap hosting and started working on a site done in dreamweaver. It was really hard to keep track of all the things that you needed to do to make it look good and without obvious flaws.

Just making a link was something that needed carefull negotiation of a esoteric userinterface in dreamweaver and I really was rather clueless when it came to structure of the site. It didnt help that I didnt really know what people would buy or what I had to offer as a "consultant".

The website was a necessary evil and I was really mostly consumed with developing a "product" that would be a solid base for the business. I didnt help that i needed to do manual locum work to survive.

There was never really anything like a celebrated "launch" but it did manage to get a few costumers. Not from online sales but from telemarketing that I paid a rather hefty price for. The telemarketing never generated a lot of sales and at some point I gave up on it. It did however give me my first few real sales meetings with big industri compagnies.

During the process i found out that the lousy design of my website actually scared away leads that was interested after a short sales pitch by the telemaketer. At that point I knew that I had to learn more about this stuff...
