Finding current hot youtube trends

So I made my first 6$ off youtube overnight. From my experience so far, to make any decent money off youtube you need to upload videos of current hot trends. What do you guys use to find the current hot trends to keep a steady amount of traffic flowing to your site? I'm not talking about all-time popular videos like Spiderman or some music video because they are already all over youtube.

Might want to even try using google trends and grabbing news clips and uploading them and then watermarking it.
 
First run a broad keyword search using just 'youtube' using Googles Adwords keyword tool. I found that music vids and download vids seem to be the hot niches. But those are searches from Google itself. They're in the millions. As for the YT site itself. Not sure how to go about that. BUt focus your efforts on teh popular vids (video responses, using similar tags so yours will be seen w/the popular vids - not sure exactly how that works yet, maybe even advertising/w banner ads/w Google placement).
 
problem with current hot trends is they don't often get sustained traffic. This is good if you want to capitalize on trends to make your channel popular, but overall, i prefer things that people are always looking for...
 
You could always go direct to yt and view the most popular and most viewed videos sorted by today|this week|this month|all time. They also have the rising videos. Good luck.
 
yes, these suggestions are all true and I thank you for them. I have made $30 so far in 3 days from my video. It seems I was one of the first to upload it right when the demand started and got 20k views in 3 days :D. not bad for my 1st try at this! now to find another hot video

Man that's freakin awesome to hear. Yeah, I forgot about that one but yeah it always helps to hit the scene first with a new vid. But that's a problem/w music vids unless you hit the popular foreign ones - e.g. Bollywood music clips. But yeah, brave the popular vids page and work some angles there.

Can I ask: did you have a link in the desciption or in the vid itself or both? (Both wouldn't hurt I suppose).

What i did was have a message appear saying youtube removed my video but you can still watch it at the link in my comment --------->

and to update im at 28,466 views, #49 - Most Viewed (This Week) - Canada, and have made $42.94 not bad for 10 mins of work :D

Interesting technique. Bait and switch + content/pitch mix. Great results for sure. I used to get paid $14/hr.
 
search.twitter.com is useful aswell. Shows the top 10 things people are talking about. The fact that it's realtime unlike google trends is sexy
