Ok, I am going to dive right into this?

While thinking of ways to lure prospective clients into the office it hit me?.

What is one thing 99.99999% of people can never turn down?

    FREE FOOD!

So, I put together a sales letter (see below) and sent it off to local businesses. It was a HUGE success. It is amazing HOW MANY people are wiling to come in and talk business when you bribe them with something as simple as a cheeseburger.

People that would tell you to eat sh#t over the phone if you cold call them are now anxious to come in.

Do you think a business owner is going to come in and agree to talk business just to get a free lunch? OF COURSE NOT?but it is a simple gesture that helps open the door.

The mailer is simple ? use a BRIGHT COLOR envelope! I get them here:

    Code:
    [URL]http://www.envelopesuperstore.com/[/URL]
I include the sales letter, the menu and a couple wet naps.

    Here is the letter:

    Page 1:

    Page 2:

Now, just a simple menu that they fill out and fax in:

This is a very simple concept. As soon as the faxes roll in call and schedule and confirm them times right away ? and confirm all of their details ? also send them an email with an outlook reminder. Send them an email the day before also letting them know that you are looking forward to having lunch with them.

So, for $20 worth of food you are going to get a client sitting right in front of you, and talking and eating is a very relaxed environment ? a great environment to close deals and set up future meetings, etc.

Think about it ? you can?t even get a lead for $20 ? you are getting a warm body sitting directly in front of you!

Now get to work and close some deals!!! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Food, my one true weakness, this "free food" strategy has been used successfully by many businesses but I guess this is the first for IM. Great idea :p

Thank you! It's kicking ass right now - the actual mailing is cheap - and the cost of food is nothing considering you have a chance to turn a $20 lunch into thousands of dollars. Think how far $20 will get in other advertising methods...not very far! :)

What kind of end results did you see from this? Number of sales vs number of appts/letter.

Just make sure you do not market to college kids, or you will be broke within the week and dead leads. Nice one OP!

Amusing sales letter and good idea. I was just reading this morning how a guy sent a resume as a chocolate bar and got the job because of it. How many people took on the offer, and out of those, how many ended up becoming a client?

I can see some people feeling slightly obliged to use your services because of the food, or they may not want to look cheap by just coming in to eat :p. It could be the thing to push them over the edge.

    I love this idea!
It looks like it's only been a few hours since this was posted, but I can't wait to see what you get from this! Very exciting!
I have to admit, I think casual exchanges beat formal ones in many cases. A friend of mine was a salesman for years. He closed 80% of all of his deals over golf or food. You just have to have good social skills. It's an art form, in my opinion.
Keep us updated on how you treat these meetings - what you say, how long you talk casually before getting to business, how much of a personal connection you establish before going in for the kill, etc...
    Good luck in your endeavors!

Will post some data next week - lots of stuff in the works, quotes, research on our end, etc.

    lol :)

Not too many college kids own businesses so I think we are safe ;)

Exactly and it just makes it a much better environment. More casual and they have their guard down a bit.

Each has been different - but I always have sports center playing on espn muted on the office TV - sports are a great ice breaker - and if I can tell they are interested in what's happening we will watch some highlights and use that to build a quick 5 min bond. Also have a big projector screen that we use to view their site, competitors, search results, etc. It's a very casual approach. Will post more details after I experiment some more :)

What do you think of inviting future clients for a lunch at restaurant ? (not too expensive!)
My office is basically my small apartment, I will be moving to something nicer soon but until then I still would like to consider this idea...

I did it with some people I already knew, and I am pretty sure having the talk there [without even having to pay] helped their decision to hire me for some jobs, but I don't know how it would be to some future client I have never talked to... is it too personal ?

    Thanks!

Im sure it could work - I just like having them in my environment. Give it a shot! Then when you have your office set up do it there.
