if you sell fake goods (and many do!) read this...

In a massive crackdown, police and law enforcement agencies across Europe have seized more than 4,500 website domains trading in counterfeit goods, often via social networks, officials said on Monday.

The operation came as Europol, Europe's police agency, unveiled its newest campaign dubbed "Don't F***(AKE) Up" to stop scam websites selling fake brand names online. In the crackdown, agencies from 27 countries mostly in Europe but including from the U.S. and Canada, joined forces to shut down over 4,500 websites.

They were selling everything from "luxury goods, sportswear, spare parts, electronics, pharmaceuticals, toiletries and other fake products," Europol said in a statement, without saying how long the crackdown took. An annual operation run in collaboration with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security, there was "a significant increase in the number of seized domain names compared to last year," said Europol director Rob Wainwright.

As part of the crackdown, Dutch anti-fraud police arrested 12 people across The Netherlands over the past two weeks as they searched homes and warehouses. Most of the raids were prompted by online sales of counterfeit goods on social networking sites such as Facebook and Instagram.

More than 3,500 items of clothing and fake luxury goods were seized in Holland, including shoes, bags and perfumes purporting to be such brands as Nike, Adidas, and Kenzo, with a market value of tens of thousands euros.

Publishing a guide on how to spot fake websites and social media scams, Europol warned consumers had to be on their guard.

Good, too many fake shit online. The only thing that sucks is that most of the people running the sites won't get extradited for it and will just be able to make a new site.

Another 5,000 will open most likely as I don't think by shutting them down can actually make a big impact on these fellas... How long does it take to create a domain nowadays? They can even copy the content onto the new domain.... But anyway, at least the agencies are doing something ;)

Let's see which black hat member isn't going to be online pretty soon hehe.

But the arrest part in holland, mostly is people that selling fake clothing online from sites like marktplaats.nl. This site is similiar to the US craiglist. Commen practice in the Netherlands for over 10 years already. I even did this for a while. Can't remember the brand name those days, but the logo was like a M, really expensive brand, but fakes where really cheap to buy from china. The brand was mostly known for jeans, originals sell for 250 euro + and fakes about 120 euro+, the fakes in china costed about 10 euro per jean, but that time not many people knew about buying 20 jeans from china for just 200 euro. If anyone remember the brand let me know, since I know live on an island where to they don't give shit about copyright, they even sell copies of dvd's (even the new one which are still in the cinema) in brick and mortar shops.

    Edit:
    This was the brand logo:

I think it was called something like evisu

Ummm.... Because the original brand names don't like losing money out due to criminals who counterfeit their products. I am sure you would not like it either :)

Fuk em, these companies charge 1000%+ more than it cost to make the product anyway.

Taking money from a fortune 500 company, all they care about is driving their stock prices up.

    I could careless.

The internet actually is pretty fast. On average i've got 35mbs so a download speed of 3.5 mb per second. But it's the people who are slow. Over 80% doesn't own a credit card and online shops haven't even been founded yet. Atm working on one of the first online shops and they can swipe their debit card on arrival of the item with the delivery guy.

About the island, even worse, about 20% doesn't even own a bank account and still work with cash and get paid in the old fashioned way by cheque. The island is not behind technology, everything you need can be found here, and we're even known for the unique concept of e-zone, which has many big online companys. Getting to that point, for any internet marketeer making over 20k a month I can help them setting up e-zone company, just pay 2% in tax, pm me if intrested will charge about 5% of your profit. But back to the point: It's just the people here who are so fkn stone aged and are 10 years behind the rest of the world.

The real question is that if the product is manufactured on the same production line, with the same materials, the same tools, and the same production personnel, and on the same production line, is the product fake? IE Gibson and Epiphone guitars, among others, that are manufactured in the plant in Sejung China.

Let's all take a moment to appreciate that I will no longer receive fake Louis Vitton clothes. I may be robbed for my real ones, but at least they're not fake.

Not all fake stuff is from big evil global incorporations. Here in the UK we have a program about the force tasked with going round the UK and removing fake stuff from shops. It's really interesting to see what weird stuff is faked these days, there is a very good chance that we all have used something fake without even knowing it.

I saw fake soap, cleaning products and toys amongst many other things.

I know lots of people use fake items because they can get something that looks like the real thing for a fraction of the cost and I understand it with clothing but lots of things can be dangerous if they have not been through the correct channels. For example kids toys can have choke hazards or irritants in them, cleaning products can contain more harmful chemicals than the original items and electrical items can be wired up in an unsafe way.

There are lots of reasons that things like this take priority from these law enforcement departments and it is usually because that is their job, another task force is dealing with violent crime / terrorism etc.

People being scammed (sellers claiming it's original and it's fake is one thing - this is scam), but people buying fake stuff that they can't afford like Louis Vuitton or Armani and stuff that's other thing. In my country this is very common for people to purchase "branded" 100% China made stuff. Why? I have no idea. Why would you want to buy something that is obviously fake from first look even on pics not to mention once when you see fake product live. Those are low quality copied products made of who-knows-what type of material. One of the problems is that some of the REAL stores sometimes pop in a batch or two of fake shit products that can be noticed from a mile away and they simply go with it. Shi*heads.
