amazing that they don't know about TOR or proxy servers! :p

Ryan Collins Photos: Pictures of 'Celebgate' Hacker

Ryan Collins, a 36-year-old Pennsylvania man, has admitted to hacking the email accounts of female celebrities to steal nude photos and videos in a case connected to the 2014 "Celebgate" scandal.

Prosecutors said Collins sent emails to the victims that appeared to either be from Apple or Google. In the emails, Collins asked the victims to give their usernames and passwords. When the victims responded with that information, Collins was able to log into their email accounts.

In August 2014, hundreds of photos of celebrities, including Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton and many others were leaked online. Federal prosecutors say there is no evidence Collins leaked the photos himself and have not identified the celebrities whose accounts he accessed using a phishing scheme.

Collins is likely to be sentenced to 18 months in prison. :batman:

In October 2014, FBI searched a house in Chicago and seized several computers, cell phones and storage drives after tracking the source of the hacking to an IP address linked to an individual named Emilio Herrera. According to law enforcement officials, Herrera is just one of several people under investigation and the FBI has carried out various searches across the country.

Well not even tor is 100% secure if you don't know how to use it the right way. :-D

probably they were just infected with a trojan/botnet with proxy module which the hacker(s) used...
Or someone pays them for it.

they only catch the little fishes, always. The bigger fishes know how to stay hidden.

18 months is actually a lot less than I expected based on my prejudices about the US law.

they were threatening a 5-year term for a "not guilty" plea, but are now offering 18 months for admission of guilt and probably names of the other hackers.

six years ago someone got 10 years for breaking into celeb phones.

give a regular person a camera and they will takes pix of their house, their car, their kids, their friends, and their neighborhood.

give a female celeb a camera and she will take many pix of herself in the nude.

they actually gave out their info by email!

I remember getting into an argument with a bunch of people about this. I told them I do not feel sorry for those women. They victimized themselves by being dumb enough to put naked pictures of themselves on their phone/in the cloud.

The argument is "They have a reasonable expectation of privacy and they have the right to take naked pictures of themselves."

I agree that they have the right to take naked pics of themselves.

I also agree they should suffer the consequences of their actions just like everyone else.

As far as a reasonable expectation of privacy, nope. You're using an electronic device. If you expect total and complete privacy, go off the grid and disappear.
