Fed up with hostwinds. Anyone recommend an alternative? Before hostwinds bumps in the thread or outright has it deleted please note that I am one of their oldest customers and a long running big fan and I am just fed up and DONE. My sites are down more than they are up lately and they always twist it like its my fault? No thanks. no more.. all done...all set... just admit you got too big to care about your customers enjoy your success and stop blaming me.

I did at one time really enjoy being their customer. Peter is a great guy but lately its almost like he sold the business or something?

If they are not telling me I am infected with viruses they are trying to tell me I need to upgrade from a VPS to a cloud.. now this week they moved servers and redid the nameservers.. I am sitting here like a jackass trying to input the nameservers they gave me into my domain registra and they just are not working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do not want to think about my sites this much!!!!!!!!!

    Ticket I just submitted:

Fed up please provide backups or all files and mysql databases.. everything please.. all sites all accounts.. all of it please.

Please provide me with backups of all website files and databases so I can find new hosting somehwere else. I have been down more than I have been up in the last few months and I just can not devote this much time and energy into whether or not my sites are up and running.

The last 24 hours I am a jackass waiting for DNS to propagate and now I log in and see that my server is suspended? Seriously guys? If you were local I would vandalize your building.

    Response I got:
Your VPS is online we had to move all VPS'S on the node you were on to a new node today due to hardware issues. Everything should be working now. If you feel that you need to take backups you can complete this using the cPanel backup wizard.

    My response back:
How foolish of me to expect you to do one last thing so I wouldn't leave
totally angry. Please provide instructions on how to accomplish backing up
everything so I can spend more time and energy thinking about how unhappy I
am with the service you provided.

What are your expectations on pricing and your current service? If you need high quality managed support (VPS/Dedicated) I would recommend handsonwebhosting.com
If you need cheap dedicated servers with potentially the best support you could try hivelocity.net

Or as per my usual suggestion: webhostingtalk.com
If you dont like the service, post a review there. The mods will have you verify you're on HW and HW is on that forum so they'll probably drop into that thread. If you dont want to leave a review (I would suggest you do for any host, good or bad) then you can just browse their offers area. Find something you want and priced how you want then search for reviews on the company.

@Boston: backing up a VPS is not so simple. Depending on what you did you may only need a WHM/cPanel backup or if you had extensive changes done to the settings then you will need a full OS backup.

So right after I posted this thread Peter contacted me and worked it all out. He severely reprimanded an employee (who I learned was later fired) for the way he treated me. He apologized profusely and more than made it up to me and I have remained a happy hostwinds client since then. I should have come back and updated this thread a while ago because hostwinds really did make things right for me but I just kept forgetting. I want to thank Peter and the rest of the hostwinds staff for solving my issues and apologize for spazzing and posting this thread without getting hold of Peter first.. my bad. If the mod likes they have my full support in deleting this thread entirely. Its a bit embarrassing to come back and eat shit and apologize like this.

Good it work out just fine. I have been with them for more than a year now and they always help me with my problem, I hope they work on the down times though but overall their support is really great.
