FB vs. Big G

I read this article about how arrogant, yet awe inspiring this dude Suckerberg is because he knew he had a idea to rival G00gle...essentially this dudes long term plan was to create his own sub internet within the larger system...everything that goes on on fb is housed on their internal servers and they restrict access to other search engines (G00gle)...that open id api shit will have other sites clamoring to become part of the fb world thus making it larger...so wouldnt it be wise to figure out how to optimize pages/groups/profiles for internal fb search?...from what i can discern...it seems the page/group with the most amount of fans gets on the first page...but sometimes not...i have found heavily populated fan pages on page 5 or 11...unless im missing the obvious...what is the fb algorithm?

Right now nobody goes there to search.. but all they would have to do is change their home page.. Create a google esque page and with a button to login to facebook itself.

If they could get their search engine to a decent stage, Im willing to bet that it could very well steal %10-30 of the market within a few months.

You have to think like someone who doesnt know shit about the internet... kiddies and noobs wont care if facebook or google provides their search results. They just know they can get both in the same place. Big G may just have a competitor.

I haven't fully expounded on the article i read...but what u need to realize is that fb is creating its own sub internet... and how do u find shit on the net?...u search! this dudes plan is to have search become personal...so lets say ur looking for a doctor...u dont go to an impersonal search engine that will show u results based on paid/seo results...u would get results from ur friends and relatives...now who would be more influential?...this is fb's plan for net domination and it would behoove us to get in front of this trend...this open graph shit is gonna be huge cuz fb is basically giving away free traffic to anyone that becomes a part of their web ring...i was on fortune.com reading some shit then when i got to the bottom it said "like this" and showed the fb style commenting box...that shit blew my mind...i woke my girl up 3am to show her that shit...slowly but surely i have been seeing it on other sites too...now imagine u have a weird fetish like u enjoy watching bi-sexual African cockatoos getting it on or some weird shit...so u on ur favorite cockatoo freak site and what do u know...a dude u went to school with left a comment on some vid ur watching...u never knew any of ur friends were into this shit...much less would understand ur fascination with it...but now u got one of ur bestest buds to talk cockatoo freak shit with and all because fb had the foresight to aggregate all of the web without having to concede to g00gle...the opportunity for monetization is there...im just too cloudy in the head to see it right now...but trust me its huge!

lol....nice example. On a more serious note, I think you may be onto something here. I'd be interested to hear more about any patterns any one else is noticing with regards to FB's search algorhythm.

also facebook pages can rank very well in google I smell a great opportunity to dominate both thro their viral effects and also SE rankings

Sounds interesting but I've seriously cut down on FB after their last privacy changes which were opt out and not opt in.

IMHO they are just another Google all out to get all data about you so that they can make money. With Google at least I have some control, with FB I've never figured it out. I got a coupon for running ads on FB but out of 4 ads only 1 was accepted and I just gave up after all the hassle. On the other hand it was a cinch to get my AdWords quality score to an 8 on Google AdWords starting with a 5. I made 300USD with an investment of 60USD per day with AdWords but zilch with FB.

This might sound out of sync with what the OP said but its not. What I'm saying is you can figure Google out, but FB you cannot. People may think they have FB figured out but not really and like the OP says the Zuckerberg dude has figured something out and none of us are seeing the big picture yet, that's why I prefer to stay away from something I cannot understand.

I can see where Zuckerberg is going with this so far in a mild fashion. I definitely have not figured out the whole scope of things, but I do somewhat understand. Even if FB was to overtake Google when it comes to searches (which I highly doubt because there are MANY more people that use Google that simply refuse to use FB), Google still has a whole cache of other programs/services and they are releasing more and more of them as the months go by. Personally, I do not think FB has a chance to keep up with Google. They are a social network. Google is the most powerful search engine and so much more. I could be wrong, but I really think a bunch of this "FB to overtake Google" is nothing but hype. I'll believe it when I see it.
