Despite what BHW says, I've been doing SEO/local map SEO for a while now and have had good success. One way I've done well is to avoid competitive niches. However, I'd like to get more "competitive", especially for local map listings in Google.

I feel like I have a pretty good grip with getting a business to rank at the top of G**gle's local maps for a given city/keyword. As anyone who has looked into how to do maps right knows, one of the things you need to do to get the map listing ranked is to get citations to your local map listing (if this is news to you do a search in BHW and educate yourself before you start asking a bunch of noob questions!). However, some (most?) of the citations TAKE FOREVER (up to 3 months!) to post on the local map listing!!

    2 Questions For Everyone:

    1. In your PERSONAL (as opposed to theory or what you have read) EXPERIENCE, how long have the citations taken to post on your google's local map?

    2. What sites/blogs/forums/etc. post a citation to my google local map listings the fastest????

Any help would be appreciated! I'm patient, but it seems ridiculous to have to wait for a citation for weeks and weeks when a backlink for SEO can be indexed in a matter of days (or less!)

    teeniegenie <---

I have a "source" that does google local rankings for me ($$) and

everything your saying is still true... even in completive areas.

Think "lawyer + major city name" ...

it's taking him up to 3 months for things to happen and show up.

So if you have a method that's working... great! :)

I know that doesn't really answer your question for a -- quicker way--

But to be honest Google is scaling so quickly with local that things are changing.

So even if you did find a way that worked right now...

we all know it will change eventually.

    Good Luck!

    First post on this forum.

    teeniegenie,

Have you tried building backlinks to the pages containing the citations?

The rest of this post is not really in regards to your question, but it may help others on here searching for tips.

    a) some keywords in Company Name Box ( but not too spammy )

Ex. KEYWORD(S) by NAME OF COMPANY

    b) some keywords in description box

    c) After selecting 1st appropriate category, then make your own for the following ones with your keyword phrases

    d) On the ADDITIONAL DETAILS section on the bottom, you know where the example is

    Brands carried
    : Sony, Panasonic and Toshiba.

    Well, I do this

    Keyword : More Keywords

Do this on each one, there 8 sets, so 16 total variations of your keywords

And of course 100% completion of profile with all videos and pics etc.

Well Known Site - UBL Listing Service for citations - $30.00

Here is another site, but have not tried yet, they have a 50 citation and 100 citation package - dubya dubya dubya . local citations ( you know the
    rest )

I am now taking a look into using KML files, and building backlinks to the url containing the KML file.

    Good Luck

I'm not sure I follow your question. Are you asking if I build backlinks to pages that have the business name/address/phone number? I have been doing that. I also do traditional backlinks for a SERP boost too. From what I understand there really are two types of citations when it comes to the Google Places maps: (1) straight backlinks for SEO purposes and (2) backlinks to get a "citation".

My frustration is that the citations in the maps take FOREVER to show up! I'd love to find a way to speed it up, but it seems 3 months is the norm from my searches on this forum and PM discussions with some members...if that's the case, then so be it....

I haven't seen much of a boost from pinging. The citations seem to take several months to show up no matter what I do, including sending out a ping...

I have tried to list my offline business at least 50 times and after I redo it (over and over) Google maps rejected it every time...and sent me those verification postcards 50 times. It NEVER lets you know what the problem is...
That whole process is a mess. Quite honestly I never look at those listings myself anyway, ******** Google Maps/Places...

I have had citations that took 6 months to post. It was so long that when it happened I was so surprised because I thought it would never happen. These are for local areas with a lot of competition. It appears that the tighter the competition, the longer the posting time. All citations appear to be manually reviewed in my case, and I think this is true in general. The review process is just endless, as you have noted, and the more populous and competitive an area is, the worse the time to get it reviewed. I don't think there is any way around this, but if anybody knows a way, I am all ears. By the way, backlinking seems to have nothing to do with it, meaning it has no effect on the speed of the manual review. I get the distinct impression that it is a simple first-in, first out queue.

Clickstream, my experience has been similar to yours. It drives me crazy how long it takes to see any citations show up! It has easily been taking more than 3 months each time. You'd think Google could find a better (i.e., faster) way!

    Thanks for the reply.

    Teenie,

Amen brother. I am experimenting with 3 or 4 different ways to make it go faster but it is an agonizing process to wait 3 months for the results to show. I have inadvertently gotten citations quicker from press releases that included NAP info but I've not been able to duplicate it since. That might be something for you to test.

I seriously doubt G manually reviews citations though. I think it's just a standard filter for new listings.

I'm not able to pm torreswpb to see what he's got. Could you send me his contact info please?
