What is the minimal WordPress setup you use for a content-focused site?

Recommend essential plugins (SEO, caching, security, backups), critical wp-config.php tweaks or wp-admin settings, and one recommended theme type. Include any quick hardening or performance tweaks to do immediately after install.

You can check out lightweight theme, one SEO/yoastseo plugin, caching plugin, regular backups, and basic security hardening. My advice is to not load up a fresh install with too many plugins as that usually causes more problems than it solves. Also, disable unused features, change default settings, and focus on site speed from day one.

How do you do backups? Do you use UpdraftPlus or any related software?

for performance, caching + image optimization + a CDN usually gives me a better starting point than trying to tweak dozens of wp-config settings.

I'm not a web developer, so an AI agent handles almost all of the website optimization. I don't see the point in looking for solutions on my own when the agent does it for me.

Especially when it comes to the basic functionality of a content-based website.

These are my usual lightweight plugins I install on new wordpress sites.

Backups: wp-vivid for automatic scheduled backups
Caching: litespeed cache if your hosting supports it
Anti-spam comments/accounts: clean talk
Security: security by cleantalk
Seo: seo framework
