Is it hard to fake residency for a college? I was thinking If I get a backdated rental lease I could possibly do this.

Just claim you are in the country illegally and you can get in-state tuition.

I've been trying to do this, and it seems a bit complicated. I flew down to the state I wanna go to college in (I have family there), got an ID (not a license) that puts my address as them. Not sure if I'll even use it when I go down next year. I think most colleges want to see tax returns and such. I even heard some want to see credit card statements. I opened a bank there as well; not sure if that'll help me.

Curious to see if anyone here knows more about this, haha.

Thanks for the info, get a phone account with your address on the ID card,I think they want bills to show that you live there. But since you have your residency as that state cause of the ID,then you can pay taxes to that state. I was thinking about backdating a lease yesterday, but realized that wouldn't be enough

I've been looking at some colleges tonight, and I found that some allow special exemptions to the one year wait. If you are an adult that has just been employed for long term in the state. So you could create an LLC in that state, then employ yourself. It only costs about $100 to create an LLC and get the EIN in one week. $100 to save several thousand is worth it.

xphase's thread on creating a llc for about $100 http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/business-tax-advice/317443-cheapest-way-start-your-llc.html

That could work, but just one thing. I'd be transfering from community college in another state. Wouldn't they instantly see I went to community college in another state (because they obviously need to see my transcripts). Then they could possibly ask to see proof that I was paying out of state tuition there, cause you can only be a resident of one state.

Do you know what I mean? It just seems a bit tricky.

You could try the LLC creation and employment method, put yourself on a 5 year contract for an SEO company in that state working there at an office. So that they think you will be in the state long term.
