We've seen the reports of Google cracking down on fake views by other members in this forum. But since its getting so much publicity this day (see http://www.cnbc.com/id/101392205 for another story), it brings a problem to light. I have some videos ranking really well and noticed an abnormal spike in views on one specific video. It's in a competitive niche, and I suspect the hammer will be dropping very soon.

Seriously, all this BS from Google is lame. The production costs for some of the videos I'm earning $ with are substantial in my eyes. Is Google going to have a "disavow views" file to upload or some other BS crap that will waste more of our time? Is there any known ways to shield your videos from being negative SEOed with fake views?

Most fake views are sent by embedding YouTube videos on social media pages or external websites and then running the view scripts. You should disable embedding on your videos to avoid this from happening to you.

Thanks Tommy. I never got into the fake views scene and never knew how they generated them. If I have to disable embeds, that creates a new problem as some of my videos are designed for reference and they do get embedded on industry related sites. It looks as if I'm darned if I do and darned if I don't. :( There's gotta be a better way for Google to deal with fake views, likes, etc.

NEG SEO effects people and their websites, their sites get hit and then they have no choice but to advertise.

YT views can be sent to any video, get the video removed maliciously and then they have to start over with a fresh slate, causing them to possibly then advertise.

I don't know how it's going to play out, but at the end of the day, they do whatever they want and they do what's best for their company money wise, not what's best for the users. If they cared about the users, NEG SEO wouldn't be possible and they would just filter views they don't want to count, instead of counting them and then banning videos.

Are you a YouTube partner? Perhaps you can try raising the issue with YouTube employees through their partner forums, and in the event your video gets banned, then you can easily appeal and have your video reinstated. I know several partners who have had their entire channels restored after they had been sabotaged and wrongfully terminated.

I've been thinking about this for months, but didn't want to give anybody any ideas. Not sure how this will pan out, I'm sure it's going on in the PPD niches.

PPD videos are easily taken down by simply flagging them, since they violate YouTube policies anyways.

Yeah, but in terms of experimentation.

Fake anything should no longer be acceptable if your serious about seo. It's time people start finding other ways to get social signals or views.

I'm not a partner, but something I should definitely look into so that I can get ahead of the curve on this one. I see nothing but trouble and with my best performing videos linked to one account the potential for damage is huge. Thanks again for the advice. :)
