    Hey everyone,

I currently work for a company that outsourced their SEO efforts like most do in the industry. I was hired on a project basis to do some web development, and never had to do anything with their SEO or SEM because it was all outsourced and everything was ranking so well on many different difficult keywords. I left for awhile during the winter months and came back around March to find that the rankings had severely dropped. After searching keywords I found several linkedin accounts that started tons of discussions about this company and then linking back to the homepage...and the reason that I found them was because they were literally showing up on page 1 while our page dropped to about 5 pages back. The more I looked into these accounts, there are 100s of different fake social media accounts, blogs, etc that were made by this company.

It goes without saying that this company was fired for the drop in rankings, and I am attempting to clean up the mess. Being newer to SEO, I am much more familiar with creating websites that are "SEO friendly" etc, but not with recovering from something like this. If anyone has a few words of advice or any ideas of where you'd start, I would be grateful to hear it. Thanks!!!

You can try getting a better SEO company, company which has a better ranking in google should be preferred. Or you can learn SEO techniques yourself and do the repair. And the last resort can be forgetting the domain completely and just doing 301 to a new domain.

start by going into google webmaster tools
and looking at the links to the site.
Write to every domain owner and ask them to
    remove links/pages that look like
    the SEO company created them.
    -----------
    Then, wait couple of months...
    ----------
re-run your links report in GWT
    anything that still looks undesirable,
file a DISAVOW report on those links.
    ------
    Wait three weeks
    -------
File a reconsideration request in GWT and summarize EVERYTHING
you did and all you know
    -----
It could take MONTHS to fix this problem...

Thanks for the advice! Much appreciated...screw that company for running away with their giant bag of money.
