Hey guys,

I am not sure if someone asked this before but I just want to get clarified so here it is.

Would i face legal problems if I have "facebook" word in my domain. something like "talkfacebook dot com" etc.. I do not want to start a social networking site but what if I want to setup a forum or blog etc.

There are sites like allfacebook and more that have the word in their domain and that is why i am curious to know.

Also the same question applies to twitter, apple etc. would i have problems having talkapple or talktwitter etc?

Looking forward to responses. Thanks in advance!

Yup.
Look up facebookeconomy and see what happened to Mark. He got sent a C&D so fast. Actually just look up "Facebook v." lawsuits.

Yes, allfacebook and others have it in their website because they are cool with Facebook or Facebook gave them permission. You are at their mercy on whether or not they'll go after you.

But if your domain is trying to make money or cash in on Facebook, THEY WILL GO AFTER YOU. Honestly, it isn't worth it. They got $1 billion dollars to put up against a lawsuit, how much do you have? If you have the money to defend a copyright lawsuit...

If most companies don't like what you are doing they will have their attorneys send you a cease and desist letter. They will most likely want to relieve you of the domain name. If you don't comply with their C&D you risk the chance of being sued.

lol, just look up facebookeconomy
or face-book or facebook dot com dot au.

Facebook challanged all the domain names. One guy poured $5,000 into a site and Facebook took it away with WIPO.

With Facebook, don't f with them. They are very litigious.

Interesting thought! but then what about twitter and apple related stuffs? if i setup a forum with ads and call it talkfacebook, im ********ed? lmao! that sucks. what about talkfb? that is b/s cuz when you setup a forum, you are actually discussing the topic and sharing thoughts and not just competing. Anyways, thanks for the input. Lets see what others have to say

facebookeconomy still lives! :D its some chinese shit eh! i guess fb guys dont understand that

lol well if you don't live in the US or Canada there isn't much they can do. And if you stay well below the radar, they don't care.

I wouldn't do forums because you are still infringing on their copyrights. They copyright Facebook specifically for social networking. It doesn't matter how you want to argue it, a forum is infringing. Yes, they will win, so you'd have to beg some attorney trying to make a name for himself to settle for less than $100,000. But he won't want to because he wants to set an example with you that the Facebook domain name thing is wrong.

Honestly dude, if you live in the US. Don't do it. I came close to buying a facebook-esque domain name and had several lawyers (THE BEST in the country) advice me strongly against it. I let one domain go and now another guy owns it. He keeps asking for cash, I mean, he is begging for a lawsuit.

lolz, damn! i get it man! thanks for the advice. Fortunately and unfortunately im in states. so how about talkfb? didnt see you talk about that yet. and what abt twitter and other stuff? like talktwitter? or do i have to make it talktweet? arg!
