I've got a Facebook page with about 50,000 likes, but I've noticed over time, the reach has been limited to such a degree, that when you look at Twitter, I'm not convinced it's worth my time or effort to try and grow any further.

It seems to be a universal thing, where Facebook have limited the reach so much in an attempt to get more people to pay for a higher reach and even then these prices seem ludicrous!

What are people's thoughts? I could set the page up to post updates automatically and just leave it, which seems the only viable way, second to forgetting about it completely.

I'm just thankful I've got a large Twitter network as at least with Twitter your potential is 100% of your followers (in theory).

Facebook is so big that it is probably always worth it to promote there. I guess just have to find better ways to promote.

If you are just limiting your time to generate traffic via page updates you are only limiting yourself to less than 1% of FB's true potential. Pages have become quite useless now unless you have great viral content which gets shared many times over.

Look around man, look at the groups, look at viral apps , the new Open graph is the new gold mine.

FB will never be dead, just update your methods and see what is working at the moment.

Exactly, you shouldn't bother that much about FB pages, it's not worth it.
Go over some other social networks - Twitter, as you noticed, is a great alternative. :)

But I've already bought a reach for a week before and it didn't mean all future posts reached 'normal'? I'm totally not having that at all.

FB is still profitable, if you're investing. But for free reach, yeah it's pretty much gone.

Share great images that receive lots of likes and shares and the reach will get better on your pages

Join a lot of groups in your niche and share the posts you make on your page to those groups, you reach will increase a lot and you'll also get a lot of new followers, just make sure to share great content and don't piss people off.

The thing with this is that I've found most groups have public comments (that's shown on their page) turned off - so do you mean share my post as a comment reply on one of their existing posts?

Hmmm, no that is not the way sharing works, you can only share on the group. If you want to put it in comments that would mean posting it there not sharing and that could piss some people off. You could try searching for more groups that allow posts from members, extend your niche a little to groups related to your niche, or even "get traffic" or "share you page" groups.

it can depend on the niche, that is always true, just try and get into more groups, other related niches..
