I saw this on the news some time ago, and was gona ask everyones thoughts on it but I just never got around to it.

Basically it goes like this, if you have your facebook profile set to the "default setting" meaning if you don't have it private or anything special, your statuses will be indexed in google.

I have a question on this that I've been wondering for the more seasoned "SEO Guys" here, since I personally don't do SEO as a full-time thing and I'm not up to the minute with all of it.

What the hell reason would this be good for? I know how it would be good for IM'ers ;) but how would it help Facebook?

Also, for what rhyme or reason would they be doing this?

Why do you take this as being a feature rather than just something googlebot does? It crawls and indexes that is its purpose, why wouldn't that end up being indexed with the rest of the site?

They are going to index only public ones, ie what a subscriber would see on your profile. The aim is to index statuses from celebs and other people

Because their specifically indexing statuses. Don't know just seems kinda useless in some sense, they already index pages/profiles, but why index peoples personal status updates? For example if I update my status to say "I just drank Heinekin Beer" they would index it for the keyword "Heinekin beer" then if someone is trying to find useful information on heinekin beer, they would see my "I just drank heinekin beer" status, which is ultimately useless. Also, since FB and google would be partnering with that, and facebook as such a high PR rating, they would appear first or at least on the first page.

Now, keep in mind, there is MILLIONS of facebook users that are legit users, so now, with all of the people in the world doing all of the things they do with facebook having such a high PR, if Google does this, they will literally flood their search results with useless facebook statuses that hold no value.

Hopefully they just give status' a really low page rank or something, then. Besides, if it works like that I guess you now know a really good SEO method, just have a new keyword status every day.

If they give them a low PR then the whole thing would be virtually useless.
Also the "Facebook[dot]com" website itself has a high PR. So I believe that they can't really change which status has a high or low PR, the facebook website itself has a high PR so all of the statuses will have a high PR, so therefore Google will be shooting itself in the foot because it will be flooding itself with facebook status updates. Last time I checked I think facebook was getting about the same, if not between 1-5% more page views per month or something than Google, and this google/facebook merge will be the death of google possibly.

For example. If you goto google and search 'Dr Pepper'
    Code:
    https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS445US446&gcx=c&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=dr+pepper
the facebook page is result number 7, for me it is at least, so now imagine all of the people in the world that are talking about 'Dr pepper' just dr pepper. Now imagine all of them being posted to google. Now think of all of the popular things now, such as Call of duty MW3, Battlefield 3, all of the rumors that go on about celebs, along with the spam on facebook with javascript codes and what-not, Google's first page won't only be trashed with facebook, googles' first 10 if not 20 pages will be trashed with facebook.
