Facebook Has Made $4.23 Off Your Profile This Year

As Facebook users, we take it for granted that we get to use the platform for free -- but that doesn't mean we don't pay a price.

With the data it gathers from us, Facebook is able to sell billions of dollars' worth of advertising every year.

In its recent quarterly report, the social media giant revealed that it has made $4.23 off every one of its nearly 2 billion active users so far in 2017.

Overall, the company reported an astonishing $8.03 billion in sales for the quarter. Its ad revenue grew 51 percent from where it was this time last year, when the site only made $3.32 from every user.

And these kinds of profits don't show any signs of slowing down.

"Seventy million businesses are now using Facebook pages around the world on a monthly basis, and more and more of them are becoming advertisers", Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg said.

"We also recently announced that over 5 million business are actively advertising on Facebook."

The site also added 80 million active users during the first part of the year, which begs the question: when will this constant growth grind to a halt?

There's no telling, but one thing is for certain: Facebook continues to rake in tremendous profits on the back of its users' information.

    My question is this.

Did they make that off my fake accounts and if so does that negate them from coming after me at some point for exploiting their system?

They like fake accounts... It makes their potential growth and expansion look better. They just want fake accounts that look legit.

I still think FB is skimming the advetisers on actual stats though..

Your fake accounts didn't click on any of their ads, so mostly they didn't make those off your fake accounts.

@BassTrackerBoats and @ZlatanTheGod are shadiest characters around. If i was investigator, i would tail them first. I see BTB as some old school conman, and Zlatan as his evil young apprentice.

I should comment that we won't do that as it is fraud and, although @Fragmaster may be right, I can't do that and feel ok about it.

Still though, Bombay Sapphire and tonic for @MoneyEagle.

So how is facebook getting more ad revenue with all sorts of controversial and heated topics that are talked about there, but when it comes to youtube companies are afraid of being associated with things.

It's not just about the clicking. It's also ad impressions which of course affect the cost to the advertiser

And by-the-way even if they did, $4 dollars a year for using their platform sounds like a steal to-be-honest. We're using an amazing infrastructure for keeping in touch with our relatives/people we know for less than $0.40 c per month, that's a pretty nice deal.

    This is so true.

Sadly everything is business and when you play their game you have to follow their rules.

Technically they made some money off me. But I made more money off them out of FB.

And then again, I've said this many times, I think FB's best times are past. They gonna be myspace sooner than later. I might be wrong tho. But I trust myself when it comes to me giving opinions about stuff I have opinions about.

    They took themselves too seriously.

It is no more just a casual network - it can be a life changer.
