Facebook is experiencing unusual spending!

This fluctuation is technically normal but not optimal from a business perspective. You should proactively intervene with automated rules to avoid "burning money" during inefficient hours.

it's completely normal, it's been happening to me for a while too

At 00:00, a lot of advertisers:

  • Reset daily budgets
  • Launch new campaigns
  • Re-enter the auction aggressively

Result → sudden competition surge, CPM/CPC jump for 30–120 minutes.

This is very common on Facebook/Meta, Google, TikTok.

Yes, this is normal—CPMs often spike around midnight due to auction resets, lower user activity

Advertising costs are unusually high every midnight. Is this normal advertising fluctuation?
This is a normal occurrence in auctions, especially during nighttime hours when many accounts push their budgets simultaneously.
When competition increases, CPM and CPA will be temporarily pulled up, not necessarily because the account has a problem.

Audience behavior can shift significantly at different times of day. Late-night delivery may reach a different segment compared to daytime, and if that audience tends to have higher purchasing intent, advertising costs can naturally be higher as a result.

Budget reset + auction shock

At midnight (account timezone):

  • Daily budgets reset
  • Thousands of advertisers re-enter the auction at the same time
  • Meta briefly prioritizes spend pacing over efficiency

Result:

  • CPM spikes
  • CPA jumps
  • Traffic quality looks worse for a few hours

We think:

✔️ Turn off ads during the 0-2 hour timeframe (as scheduled)
✔️ Reduce budget at night
✔️ Use time allocation during the day (run ads at specific hours for better results)
✔️ Split campaigns:

1 campaign runs during the day

1 separate test campaign runs at night
