Would you put 100,000 Twitter followers on par with 100,000 Facebook Fans?

If not what ratio would you put them in, in terms of potential value?

I prefer Twitter followers because they are more active in re-tweeting a message than they do at Facebook

Hmm i have a like a 3 year old twitter account which has around 40 000+ real active followers, i use it to promote services and get paid for it because most my followers actually visit/purchase what i post up. I usually just post random quotes because that's what the account is. But lately i just haven't had the time to promote items so I'm thinking about just selling it (the twitter account), i know it could be a Gold mine or something if i put in the time. Anyways Facebook is becoming the most used way to gain users and improve sales because there are many ways to do so. but i believe both have the same equal earning potential.

The thing is though chaps... only around 1/5 of your fans see your posts on their newsfeed. Facebook limit your 'reach' so you have to pay to extend it and reach the other 4/5 of your fans.

Whereas with Twitter, your tweets have the potential to be seen by all your followers in one go.

Therefore is it as simple as saying 20,000 Twitter followers is about par with 100k Facebook Fans?

Twitter's feature of "Retweets" is actually great because its widely spread and yes you're right about facebook been so limited. i guess that's the reason why i stuck with promoting on twitter :).

its going to be hard to let go of my twitter account because of the time put in to gather those users but it has to be done.

Send me a PM with your Twitter handle and I'll check it out. I don't really see 40,000 as a great deal (got near 2 milion), so I won't be able to offer much.

The reason for starting this thread is because I have someone who wishes to up my Facebook Fans and in return I build his Twitter followers.

He's offering 1.5 x whatever I give him. So if I agree on getting him 100,000 followers (by RTing his tweets until he reaches his goal) he'll get me 150,000 Facebook Fans by sharing my statuses.

I'm not convinced it's fair though. 20,000 Twitter followers for 100k Facebook fans looks nearer.

I would prefer Twitter followers... better marketing tool, with the Hashtags and Retweets, your post could possibly reach people who are not even following you.

Can I ask what you all think the ratio would be?

For instance, would you say 4 Facebook fans is equivalent to 1 Twitter follower?

Twitter hands down. More active in terms of RTing and posting - I feel like FB is becoming too cluttered these days

I prefer Twitter followers. Facebook made a lot of changes and I don't like the idea that you need to pay again for your posts to reach more of your fans or followers. They are becoming more expensive.

I would also prefer the Twitter followers. However, basically because I feel like 100k Twitter followers mean more than 100k FB fans I guess.

Twitter fans are much more valuable. But Facebook fans are also much easier to acquire, building a 6 figure follower account on Twitter used to be easy, but now it requires lots of money to purchase retweets and stuff...

It all depends on the niche, the age and location as well as income range of who you have following. 100,000 fans that are 30 year olds with a family and a good job versus 100,000 teenagers can make my returns change based on what I'm offering them.

I would say Twitter is cheaper and easier for mobile traffic especially so for mobile offers twitter, for list building facebook.

Yes I would agree with that, Facebook has an older Demographic and more desktop users, so better odds of generating leads/sales. Twitter drives more traffic, and is better for PPC stuff
