Facebook engagement bait penalty. Permanent or temporary?

My page got hit by the engagement-bait penalty. I didn't know about this changes because I was away from this for a while :(

After I noticed the major reach drop for my page and realized what just happened after research, of course I deleted the posts that could be considered "bait" (they had low reach, by the way. So they were definitely flagged as engagement bait).

It as been 11 days now, and the reach still didn't recover to what it was before this hit.

Does anyone know if this is a permanent or temporary penalty? I've read that the 0 link reach for clickbait, etc, is a temporary penalty. But what about this engagement-bait huge reach decrease penalty?

Thank you for your help!

Also after that don't forget to make green tea, freeze it, turn 3 times clockwise, and drop it on grass. It will help.

In all seriousness, Facebook said "you should expect your reach on penalized posts to decrease. Pages that repeatedly share engagement bait posts will see more significant drops in reach. "
This means the first few posts will be penalized forever, and if you keep doing it then your page gets penalized forever.

Yes, they forgot to mention green tea. That was a new user and for what I saw right after they posted the answer, they were spamming answers to rando posts, just to get post numbers, I guess.

Yes, I also saw that from facebook. When you say that "it means" that, is it from your own experience with pages you own, or is it your opinion?

I'm just asking because many "penalties" from FB (0 reach from links, not allowed to post videos due to copyright music, etc) are not forever and we all know if it will take 15 days, 1 month, etc from our experience, even when FB only says that it will penalize pages from doing so, without mentioning for how long.

Thanks

from your own experience with pages you own, or is it your opinion?

For this particular penalty, when the post is flagged, it's flagged. I usually try to delete penalized post and repost them without the engagement bait asap.
Once I tried to advertise a penalized post, and nothing changed for about 5 days. That's my experience.

If I were you, I would remove the post and repost it without the bait. It shows facebook you got the warning from your (honest) mistake and took action. That's what a non-spamming whitehat user would do. They are very tolerant on mistakes, even when you deal with the support team. I saved a bunch of pages and ad accounts by just fixing my mistakes and being straight with them.
So if I were you I'd try to fix the issues asap, so in case you get a page penalty, you can actually tell them you always tried to fix your mistakes and won't do it again.

Thank you very much for your answer! You are being very very helpful and I can't thank you enough!

As soon as I realized that something happened, I immediately deleted the post that I think that was the main cause.

I noticed the page reach drop about 15 hours after I posted it. So I immediately deleted that post and all posts that may be seen as "bait" even those that technically weren't.

Funny thing is that I didn't get any notification. Just the massive reach drop after that "bait" post that I had no idea that were no longer allowed (Of course, my bad).

Only discovered that it's no longer allowed, after seeing the reach drop and trying to find the cause. That was october 15th, so 21 days ago and nothing changed since then.

I do not use ads on that page for a long long time. I was posting videos (100% original) and earning with ad-breaks.

Since I got no notification, page quality is green, ad-breaks is on, etc, but the page clearly got the penalty (because that post was actually an engament bait post, asking for comments with certain words), do you have any suggestion where I can try to explain my mistake and tell them that before that I always were 100% whitehat, etc, like you said? The page has about 6 years. Feel free to PM is you prefer.

Thank you very very much again!

Honestly try to make a new post first, maybe you'll see an increase in reach and there won't be a need for the rest. Personally I boost most of the posts, so I get my notifications, warnings and stuff from the advertiser platform. And I contact them on the advertiser support chat : https://www.facebook.com/facebookadsupport/
I just send them a message on messenger and hop its taken care of. In your case I don't know if it applies though.

As per talking to them, don't use the words black-hat white-hat etc.. Just act like you're a regular joe. If you didn't get any notification, just tell them that a friend told you about how engagement bait is not allowed on facebook, and you had a post like that. That you deleted the post but maybe you need to do something more and you'd like some help.
It make it sound like you made a mistake, you're sorry and you're trying to make it right. In these cases they help.
If you get a notification or a warning, just say you just got this warning and you removed the post. And ask if there's anything else pending on your page that you can fix because you want to follow the rules.

Since I got no notification, page quality is green, ad-breaks is on
This means you're probably fine, just be careful in the future. And don't hesitate to contact their support if you need. They are fighting spammers, not regular people who make mistakes. :)

I've been posting everyday since day. Regular video/photos posts with anything that can be considered bait or against any TOS at all. Nothing changed yet, reach as low as it has been since about 15hrs after posting that bait post :(

I'll contact them as see if I get any answer!

What so you mean by I'm probably fine? I didn't get the notification, but I clearly got the penalty because the reach dropped a lot after the bait post. You mean "I'm fine" as in, maybe it's a temporary penalty?

Thank you for all your tips and advices :) My knowledge is not amazing, but let me know if you need some help for online stuff in the future!

Lets be clear its not magic.......its math.
How much you spend and how much received.
If you think your going to go around FB Or google never ever.
I drank with Mark and we argued and his last statement was.........everything is becoming
digital. So Steve if you own a clothing shop you have to pay for ads and exposure ...........
I said yeah soooo......thats my goal to own all the exposure

If someone is willing to help without calling anyone an idiot, I will appreciate, guys :)

I'm new around here, but I doubt that's the forum spirit.
