With the time I've spent looking at what is needed to create a facebook application, I have gathered that there is a unique version of PHP used to create facebook applications.

I'm not too well educated and before I go about looking for a programmer I want to make sure that it's even a possible task. Are there any languages or database type things that you aren't allowed to use for facebook applications? I have a feeling there is something that I'm missing, because I was very surprised to see that this application wasn't created yet.

You can create facebook application with any programming language.
The only problem is that the API (how you interact with the fb platform) is restricted to 10-15 languages: But php, asp, python, java etc are there, don't worry.

There are limitations onwhat you can do on the platform (both technical like "need permission from a user to access his data" and in terms of use "no gambling or sex related content" ) but without knowing what you want to do it's hard to tell.

Feel free to pm me if needed
