my experince with facebook advertising is similar, you basically have to be able to afford and work with the fact that about 1 in every 10 clicks on your ads is from a bot

Jesus. That is absolutely crazy! I think it must depend on the specific kind of product but DAMN.

Given the history of Zuckerbergs business ethics, its not that surprising, isn't it?

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that it's facebook doing it. It's equally possible a competitor is doing it themselves to drive up costs. If 8/10 clicks are bots that do absolutely nothing for you, that means you only have a x% chance of converting those 2/10, making it unreasonable to even be advertising on facebook. As much as I think facebook is sketchy, I doubt they'd commit fraud against their customers.

I was leading a business in Africa and we were using Facebook, conversion rates with ads were very positives ... No bot issues at this time

This actually explains a lot. Every time I've utilized FB ads, I get a ton of hits...and no conversions. Although, I will say that my conversions are much better with FB than with Google - but, then...it could just be my product (and the fact that AdWords is confusing as shit).

Still, I've often wondered, "WTF? Why am I seeing hits to my homepage that stay for only 4 seconds and leave?" Bots. Bots fucking explain it.

As long as people make money from FB PPC, I don't think they will pay much attention to bot clicks. And 80% indeed is horrible, never happened to me thou....

I believe it's the same with all the Ad networks... Just check the visitor behavior and compare Adwords with other sources of traffic... Visitors coming from Adwords always have the lowers page views/visit as well as other indicators...

However, this is just something you have to count with. If your campaign is good enough, you can still make very good money from both FBads and Adwords.

    I find this report sketchy.

They should publish the IPs of these 'bots'. I bet the guy is just retarded.

I highly doubt it even makes sense that someone else is using bots to drive up the costs, but to burn through advertisers
    budget, well that's another story.

For all of you who claim their clicks are legit, have you tried to see if your visitors have JS activated?

I still believe that there are some FB skunk works project off the hook, but then again, it is a bit weird
they (who ever they is) didn't implement JS interpreter in bot.

    Hey OP,
the first link you posted says page not found. Anyone else have a link to the original story? I'm about to spend $65.00 on Fb ads, I'd like to hear more about this first.

Me feels that Zuck has some explaining to do.

No, I mean I don't think FB will chase some web store company's skirts for $2k/month of advertising, as that's basically chump change, and I don't think they necessarily have the technical acumen to sniff bots - I want to see logs and their js judge. It's all posturing and rhetoric and smells like a publicity stunt.

They removed that facebook page... obviously. I did read it before they took it down though. We did some testing this week, 54% of clicks are not genuine. Maybe I shouldn't say that in public, but we have all the logs if they want to challenge me on it.
