My site is climbing and will be on page 1 soon. I feel a face picture will greatly increase CTR in SERPs. Or any picture really to stand out against the mass of text listings.

How easy is it to get a face picture in google serps and does it have to be your face? Can I simply make a google + account and use a picture of my eyeball or something?

It's hard, there are steps to follow but Google rarely awards it even IF you do everything correctly. I did it perfect and followed all steps twice and was not awarded the pic.

    Super easy.

    1) Create G+ Account.
    2) Install Google Authorship Plug In in Wordpress
    3) Setup your User account in Wordpress
    4) Check Google's Markup checker tool. If you missed something then they'll let you know.

Takes a couple days for your face to show up in SERPs.

Its not really tough ,normally. And remember, it will take some time for Google bots to crawl your site and understand the connection to your profile.Google doesn't guarantee that it will show your picture beside the search results always.

What I am wondering is, can I use multiple accounts on multiple sites with multiple face pics?

It adds trust to the niche but obviously I dont want my real face on affiliate sites

    Yes

@DiggitySEO: Isnt it required that you also add a link to the site to G+ for the pics to show up and to verify authorship?

It's easy to setup but not as easy as you thought it might start appearing in search result. A non active g account certainly will not help in your authorship.
