I'm sure I have been guilty of this but why do people continue to make worthless posts with "thanks" or "rep added" and nothing else. Noone gives a fuck that you added rep. No need to say thanks, just use the rep button - BUT NO NEED TO TELL US ABOUT IT!

I am not against saying thankyou. It's just good manners. But this is an info sharing forum so share some information that adds to this place.

I am not pointing fingers because, as I said, Im sure I have done this. It just needs to get through - stop wasting server space. There is way to much new stuff here to get through in a day let alone all the thankyou posts.

Ahhh, I feel much better thanks

I feel these posts are called for after someone has a rant like mine. It lightens the mood :)

Just add a Thank you button with every thread.
So if someone wants to say thanks, they can just press the button and list the usernames who all thanked.
And after that if someone post only saying thanks...maybe after 10 thanks, ban them..LOL
But wondering what do you expect new-bies to share with you!!!

milligan, you don't think that a public acknowledgment is a worthy post? Not necessarily a quality count towards your minimums post, but, regardless some people here may very well like that thanks.

HaRRo, does vB have a away to have a total post count and a quality post count? Could be interesting to see the difference in the little user info section with Join Date:. A Value Added Service to let peole know if the person they are dealing with posts crap a lot or not.

Padrino...I think the rep button is a replacement for the thankyou button. And you are right saying, "what do you expect new-bies to share with you!!!" But I have mentioned it elsewhere I think a useful thankyou post involves some sort of comment on the content of the thread or share. Maybe an experience with something similar, an opposing viewpoint or that you just farted and burped at the same time as you adjusted your chair.

caretaker2007...I do think that saying thankyou is worthwhile. Just do it with the rep button. Or add something of value with the thankyou post (see above).

HaRRo and subject...Thanks rep added yourself :)

Thank you, Milligan, somebody had to finally put in attention that pointless thank you posts are wasting storage space and readers' time. I've observed this is a returning problem, because while some noobs start learning about it, everyday new noobs show up an continue this bad habit, writing posts with only "thanks" or "me too". Thank you again for taking position against this bad behavior!

I agree milligan, adding to the mere, thanks dude, post is important. It also helps from being a post slut. A post whore would be on a GPT forum.

I was thinking that the rep button for for an above and beyond the call thanks. The links to list of open source scripts and software just seems to merit a simple thanks or WTF?, if anything, while a share of a coppermine, or better, merits a rep+ and a comment.

Since the posts a filtered through TPTB anyway it wouldn't be hard to just kill off the fluff posts, would it?

How many people come here and are total noobs to forums in general?

If people don't say thanks and add rep, how can you know the post is worthy or not?
