Hey everyone, I'm posting this here because I need to tell someone and my mum wont answer her phone. I just got a call from a job I applied for online. I have never got a call back from a an online application. I got an interview with a company that is doing mongodbnode.js & java - semantic analysis engine. I have no idea what any of this stuff is so I better get researching.

This is so exciting because I left school 5 years ago and since I have been working in fruit shops, unable to get any other job. This has put major pressure on my self-esteem and I am so ready to get a career and nail life.

What should I prepare for the interview? I think I am going to be honest an say "look you could find someone with more experience than me but I think you will have a hard time finding someone that is as passionate abut IT and keen to learn".

And to make it even better, its on Wednesday and that is my birthday :)

Not to sound like a douche bag but do you have any idea how to code? You wont learn over the course of a couple of days lol.

    1) research everything you can on what they're doing
    2) research about the company - how they are doing overall, who is their competition, what are their main products - learn as much as you can going in
    3) Show confidence in yourself and your abilities
    4) Prepare good answers for as many 'standard interview questions' as you can find (what are you strengths, weaknesses, what is something you've done well at a company, what is something you could have done better...) - on the 'negatives' like weaknesses, show how you've worked them into strengths - like if you had a problem with taking on many projects, you could say how you've learned to keep them organized and ensure that they all get completed.
    5) Prepare a few questions on what you'd like to ask them

I have never had an interview where I was not offered the job and more than once I was told that there were applicants that were better qualified than me that applied - but I interviewed better than then.

Good luck and even if you don't get it - KEEP APPLYING!

    hahaha, literally made me lol.

But concrats OP, I hope that you have some skills that they are looking for otherwise it might be a long shot. Some jobs will train you too so not all is lost if you are not an expert in what they are looking for.

His book was a favorite of mine in elementary school and, of course, better than the movie. No wonder I ended up in bhw! :p

Mongo DB - I've heard of that stuff. It's an alternative to mysql. It's actually quite good.

If you have no idea of what java is either, then I doubt you'll be able to learn all about it in time...

I'm not planning on trying to learn JS in a couple of days or pretend that I know it. I told them straight up that I don't have any of these skills but they still wanted to interview me. I don't see my lack of knowledge as a huge limitation. I am a clean slate.

    Cheers for the support :)

Oh jeez, great job on getting the interview but you better hope there not expecting you to know java.. that'd be pretty awkward if they started to ask you certain coding questions while interviewing you ;).

    Congratulations!

All your hard work seems to have paid off, I hope that the interview goes well and you manage to secure yourself a job.

A lack of knowledge isn't always seen as a negative by employers - they may want somebody that they can mould into what they see as the "perfect" employee.

    Good luck..

Go to that interview as if there is no pressure. Not to go into any details but let me tell you my short story.

I was interviewed 17 times by a same person in a very big company over the span of 2 years. Every time I gave the right answers to the same questions he asked me. On my 18th interview I decided to give all wrong answers and I was hired on the same day.

After working in that company for 1 year and becoming friends with my boss I asked him why he did not hire me 17 times before when I gave correct answers. He said he wanted to see my patience and consistency as I had very less knowledge about the field I was entering. The day when I gave all the wrong answers he knew that I would never come back ever so he hired me after seeing my persistence for 2 years :D

All the best. No matter what is the result always believe in yourself. Life is not about a job it's about business :D

He is correct, even if you do not get the job at least you will have an experience on how thing works out

Hey OP, BEST OF LUCK, just remember 1 thing believe in GOD and tell them the truth even if the job does not comes to you at least those guys taking your interview will remember that what you spoke is truth. Moreover I think you would get the job, if you do get it then make sure you come back here and post it

Thanks everyone. I am going to tell the truth. I have no intention to lie to them as I truly believe I have something special to offer their company. I have done some research on semantic analysis and it has some pretty big potential and I have come up with some good ideas on how their could use the technology. I will tell them my ideas on the day. Thanks again for all the support!

Oh I have another question. I have an adult tube and if anything, that has taught me the most about PHP and CentOS. Would it be worth mentioning it? Because what if they want to see it?? They might think I am giant pervert or porn addict but the truth is my mate and I made it because we thought it was funny and it turned into a project that taught me a fair bit.
