Hi, Is it a bad idea to link to a low or lower Domain Authority website?

Like, you have an article on your website and you Externally link to someone elses page that expands upon the topic or dives into a certain area of the topic so the reader can get more information.

Is it a bad idea and should I only link to Higher DA websites? I would like to gain DA and I heard it really doesnt matter who you link too as long as it adds value. Is this true?

Linking to some of the low authority websites will not affect your ranking. You should not give the link to others PBN sites. Even though if that low authority site if you get high social shares that will be an extra benefit for you. But don't make all OBL to the low authority sites. As @David Jones suggested, maintain the balance of authority sites. You can give the link to the high authority site like Wikipedia. Concentrate on getting backlink to your site as well.

I don't think there is an issue with linking to low DA sites as long as it provides value. But as others suggested, work on getting high DA links naturally.

That's true, as long as the link adds value to your content then do it. Just make sure that those links don't lead to bad sites or broken sites as this could end up hurting your domain authority.
