You probably have to mount the hard drive. Did the HD come with an install CD?

does anything show up on you system? check/replace cables. try pluging it into another system and see if it works. i have spilled coffee, coke, and other fluids on mine, stepped on it, dropped it and it still works. is it pre-formatted?

thanks guys for the advice. I have looked for the drivers but i could not find any. I have no idea whether it is pre-formatted. i can't have a look because it's not recognized by the laptop. And i have not had any advice from messages saying replace cable etc.
    thank guys

yeh external hdds are kinda standart, every windows higher than 98 should usually install them without any drivers, USB__....

probably not formatted, maybe power supply, maybe just read the manual with tells you the installation process, maybe just play around a little...

When I got my 1TB external HDD, I just turned it in and plugged it in, I've swapped it around a number of systems before without having to install any drivers or anything like that, atlhough I don't recall having to format mine... What operatoring system are you running? I'd just go to google for this kind of help. :)
