Hi I've been looking at an expired domain because i heard you can be more rigorous with backlinking for aged domains.

Anyway i checked and the domain i'm interested in is not indexed. does this matter? on archive.org it was crawled 90 times back to 2001. Are there any other factors that determine whether an expired domain is worthwhile? thanks

It's better to buy domains which are indexed in search engines and have live backlink profile. Also make sure to buy domains which have minimum drops.

When choosing expired domains look at the backlink profile more than anything else. You'll soon spot decent ones from shit ones.

Check if the domain was deindexed, sandboxed previously. If you are looking for backlink value, then it is better to opt for domains that have expired recently.

how many days have passed sice it was registered?

Usually it is enough to check the backlink profile and the PR of the sites the backlinks come from - if there are lots of PR 5 then there is a probability your site will regain a PR 4-5 in the next PR update. Also lately I started checking the anchor text - you should spot pretty quickly if the site has mostly natural anchor text and thus the site probably doesnt have a penalty. In the other case, when you see overoptimised anchor text better keep your hands away.
