churn and burn, which domain to start with to build a site? I want to rank a site before end of this year, should I go for expired domain? What do to with it actually I'm confused, is it bought a good metric domain, then 301 to a new domain and u start ur link building from there? is that all?

no, for expired you build it on that domain itself. The site you register with will allow you to point that domain name to a web server provider (called a host) you bought.

Most people will say EMD is out, and go with .com
EMD is still useful for large sites IMO but you'll be hard pressed to find a useful one.
people say new domain doesn't matter, but google does put a throttle until about 6 months (then its 85%) to fight spam websites

as for brandable, it makes it easier to pitch your website to others when you're reaching out and begging for links etc
expired domain has existing metrics and will be easier, but if you fail it won't be because the domain, but because of your SEO skills
you need to learn on-page and backlinking regardless, unless you have enough money to throw at it
I say expired because it's easier

don't go churn and burn, authority long term is new style

May I ask here about the 6 month theory, I have a site now 4 month, all contents are from expired domain, but i can say, contents are Okay to re-use, but I got 0 traffic, and all my posts are indexed, btw, health niche.

So what i am facing here is, either health niche competition is so hard or my site fall into your 6 month theory?

I must say, i didnt do seo to this site, just some social signals, because all contents are "free", and i dont know if i can get sth from this site, so i will not waste my time to risk this.

    So, what your opinion?

For a churn and burn site, definitely go for expired domains. If you want to build up a brand site for long term, find short expired domain names, it will be very pricy though.

    Hello,

This is strange as I had some sites on expired domains and they used to get traffic (good amount) without much SEO work. They were not health niche though beauty niche. I agree that health niche has a high competition now and it's damn too hard to rank on them but you should get a decent traffic to your site as it is built on an expired domain.

It is necessary that you do some SEO even if it is done by yourself or someone else. SEO is necessary in order to boost the potentiality of the site. Social Signals are good but only when they reach a certain point so if your social signals are weak then your site traffic won't be boosted at all.

Do you mind sending me your Skype in PM or adding me on skype. Let's discuss together and I am sure we can make this site get decent traffic in a short time.

Hope to hear from you soon!

    Regards,

If your expired domain is of good quality and using for 301 redirection then I must say go for it.

Use expired domain with good backlinks profile and not spam before.

Expired domain with good metrics works well for churn and burn types. As they already posses some authority and trust flow, you can just blast links to rank soon.

I've built on expired domains and for whatever reason, it seems to be hit or miss. Some of them get a boost while others act like newly registered domains. Not really doing anything significantly different between the ones that work and the ones that don't. Either way, it's worth the effort as long as you're not paying a lot for the expired domain.

for the people saying the 6 month thing is a myth take a look at this video... I know BHW hates matt cutts but he's trying to reassure people that it doesn't make a difference in this video
    youtube v=-pnpg00FWJY
    (can't link)
says that "the difference between 6 months and aged domain isn't very big" at around 1:30

you CAN rank a website from day 1 (I've done this) and it is even easier on web 2.0s as opposed to new domain
for example on a web 2.0 I ranked #2 on 2 500 MS terms and am currently getting 300/day traffic on a web 2.0 with 1 2500 word article 1 picture, but the competition isn't that much at all
The keyword density isn't even optimized, its at like .33
but on my 2 month old site I can't rank a keyword optimized article with tons of pictures and absolutely 0 compitition above like 50
but some other articles on my site are ranking in 20s that are lower quality with higher compitition
if I had an aged domain with some metrics this would be like twice as easy but not impossible, all your articles should be ranking for something if competition allows

really it all depends which is why nobody likes answering "how many backlinks to rank a site"?

in my opinion you probably have keyword density off, if they aren't ranking at all.
try following PHPBUILT guide and target some easier keywords if that still doesn't work. I rank page 2/3 on 300MS medium-low comp posts new domain no backlinks on day 1 by following!

as for compitition, if it isn't in the title exact match of those sites, you should be able to rank very good and definitely within serps
look at a journey thread by barbara83 to see what is possible with low competition :)
