ok, quick question.

say if There is a domain im after, that was first registered in 2000,

and its expires in a week or so from now, and I buy it from any domain seller, after it expires (hopefully)

will it still be an aged domain even after it technically expires, and I buy it after the expiration date?

cause it would beat having to buy it off the person for $xxxx,xx.xx if they forget to re-register it.

Yes it will still be a aged domain. You can also reserve the domain if you havent already done so.

if I reserve the domain, will the person who currently owns that domain know its been reserved?

The only person that will know is you. I collect domain names as a hobby and I have never encountered someone knowing that I reserved a domain name.

hi, what tool do you use to detect domain age ?

Its not the age that you should be concerned about its the quality and strength. For instance a website could be around for years but that doesnt mean its of quality because the domain owner may have not promoted very well. While searching for a good domain to start a website or add to a collection many tools are needed in the process. You could use free tools and paid tools. There isnt much competition in this area for finding good tools so search around and find the ones that best suite you. To answer your question about how to find out how old a domain or website is run a whois on ip-adress.com/whois

whats a good site that can reserve expired domains for me?

Godaddy would be the best choice. Move your mouse over the green domains section and it will be under the Auctions & More section labeled Backorder Domains.

Im talking to a nice russian chap on namecheap, and they said that
After the expiry date, the person who registered the domain name has 90 days to decide if he wants to re-register it or not.

So what, after the expiration date, the general public can't register that domain?

that Fckin sucks !

Yeah its true so thats why you have to back order it incase he doesnt renew it.

have you used namejet before?
and if so, would you recommend it?

Ive never heard of namejet. It would be best to stick with reputable registers so it would be less likely for you to be scammed.

Ive heard bad things about Godaddy though, so im a bit weary.

and as a add on, the person that holds the domain is notified 60 days befer expiration date, so he may pay in the last minute :)

Godaddy has always been a reputable choice for me. The hosting and other products aren't the greatest but for registering domains they work great.

I heard from a few people on here, that they buy domains that get a lot of searches /nearly expired domains, before anyone else can.

Probably just a lot of shit, but still
