    Guys,

I need to set up a 301 on all of my site since penguin kicked in and fu*ked my site up.
I know how to do 301's and my method is ...

    RewriteEngine On

    RewriteRule index.html http://www.newsite.com [R=301,L]
    RewriteRule about.html http://www.newsite.com/about.html [R=301,L]

    but my questions are ...

    1) did you just copy the content from site1 to site2 or did you rewrite everything?

    2) should i change the names of the pages from site1 to site2 or do you think its okay just to copy the structure over as per the example above?

    3) should site2 be hosted on a different domain and/or ip address? or can i keep both sites on the same host/ip?

    Thanks inadvance!

When I used a 301 Redirect on my site the new site was penalized as well. Take that into consideration before you do it. If you're site was penalized for over optimized anchor text like mine was, you'll just pass all those signals that flagged your first site.

I've read some people have had success with their 301's, I wasn't as fortunate. I undid the redirect a couple weeks ago and am waiting to see if I'll see any positive changes. So far nothing.

Anyway If you have a worthwhile host you might be able to just click a few buttons and have the redirect set up automatically for you. I know that's how it did it with hostmonster. I was also using Wordpress so it was easy to export/import every page.

    Hey Thanks.
    Did you ...

    Host at the same company/ip?
Keep the same page names from old to new site?
Keep all original content from old to new site?
