I bought the 'Developer's Edition' of this software, a small EXE that scrapes Google for niche-specific data. So I start using it and decide I'll run it from my Windows VPS. Well, it won't work. Come to find out, the 'Developer's Edition' which was touted as making you be able to 'outsource all of your work' will only allow the program to run from 3 computers. The program checks back to a database to verify the validity of the key/password and then decides if you can use it or not. I feel a little bit duped...misled...taken advantage of...so, with that in mind-

Is there ANY way to bypass this and just make it start right up without checking externally?

    Thanks guys!

Try making an image of your existing PC or contacting developers.

I told the developer and he said, 'Yep, it's only good for 3 computers'. I think an image of my PC would be too large for the VPS I have.

    Any other ideas?

1 PC + 1 VPS < 3 licenses - what did you do with the rest?

So you're saying that you bought a software that was only valid for 3 separate instances, and now you want info on how to get around that?

I'm not going to chastise you for trying to crack software (I have used cracked software many, many times before) but if there is not already a pre-cracked version out there, paying someone to crack it will often cost you more than just buying another license.

The only reason that I would even consider asking for this is due to the fact that the seller made his sales page very misleading. The impression that was given was that this was to be used to provide copies to outsourcers to use to conduct research on your behalf. With that in mind, there is no way that 3 'copies' would ever suffice for such a thing. It IS a good program and I DO use it daily...I just feel cheated.

If somebody COULD do this, I would gladly provide this to the BHW community as well.

While that does sound a bit vague (although without knowing the software we're talking about it's impossible to say if that's what was stated in the first place), I'm pretty sure that some sort of FAQ or something did state how many instances of the software can be run.

Fair enough. Send me a private message and I'll respond and show you where I got it. Then you can show me where it states that - and deny that it doesn't make it sound like there's NOT a limit.

jeepingjeff - it 's very simple. If you don't like the 3 seats limitation, ask for a refund or buy more licenses. You 're saying it 's a program you like and use a lot and I would assume it makes you money - so put the hand in your pocket and pay for the licenses you need.

I hadn't realized that my post included a sentence that requested opinions on how I should maintain and do with what I have. I was under the impression that this was a 'programming' forum, not a Dear Abby column.

Seriously, I was/am simply looking for a code-oriented work-around solution to the issue. I always thought that this was a helpful, sharing forum unlike most of the others I've seen in the past. I'm beginning to think a may have been mistaken...

...and now that I think about it, why does it matter WHY I want to find a work-around or WHAT I did with the 3 licenses that I have.

I didn't realize the hypocritical morality police were patrolling this forum. This IS a Black Hat forum, afterall...

Oh, you haven't realized a lot of things:
    a) It 's the programming section, not a cracking section - hopefully you 'll learn the difference one day.
    b) Your posting privileged does not include any dictation on how people will respond
    c) Nobody owes you anything - people help those who feel like it.

I don't think you know what all those big words mean. What is hypocritical about what anyone in this thread said? If you want to get technical, this isn't a programming forum either, it's an IM forum with a programming section. I don't imagine many programmers are going to willfully help someone crack another person's program, knowing the kind of work they probably put into making it. Your attitude is being directed in the wrong direction. If you were truly mislead and they're blatantly false advertising then ask for a refund, or file a dispute on the payment. If you weren't, then you honestly have no one to blame but yourself. Coming here and getting angry because no one will help you circumvent the system and crack the program is basically the equivalent to throwing a temper tantrum.

Your best advice was given above, regardless of your situation really.
Consider the type of person you're going to attract for this type of "job". Most respectable programmers aren't going to appreciate it if someone did that to their work, and therefore won't be in any sort of rush to help you either. On the other hand, you can probably find 5 or 10 scumbag potential scammers to dick you around for a while, and cross your fingers that in the end you get something that works.

Programming != Cracking || Hacking (you see what I did there?)

No, it is a sharing forum but when you are trying to do a coder out of money because you don't like the rules, thats not sharing, thats being an ass.

Black Hat != Hacking || Cracking (oops, there it is again)

I am a bot maker and am quite lenient with licenses if people talk to me - however, if I found out that a user of my code was doing the same as you all of their licenses would be killed off.

Like you have been been told - if you want to risk your security, use a cracked version from the web. Just make sure your AV / malware scanners are up to date. If you really get something out of it, put your hand in your pocket and buy some more.

I await your witty reply telling me that I am wrong :)

Careful for operator precedence! The above is equal to (programing != cracking) || hacking , which is different from what I assume you intended :)
