    hey guys,

Wasn't sure where to post this, so figured this was the best place.

I'm having some difficulties with an excel spreadsheet I've been working on. I have Column A currently frozen, and a lot of columns of data as you scroll horizontally (with column A being frozen as you scroll)..

I labeled all of the 1st cells in each column with a category, and I was wondering if there was any way to take these categories, and put them in a sorted list/filter somehow that will let me basically click on the word "Category" (Or some other solution works also! I don't have to click that word, can be a new cell or something), and have a drop down that then lets me choose which "Category" I want based on the info in the 1st cells. Here's an image: the top section is what I have currently, the bottom section is what I'm trying to go for. I want to be able to click the word category (or another cell somewhere) and be able to sort all of the columns based on the 1st cell's chosen topic. I also want all of the data from those sorted columns to populate; not just the category name. Please let me know if none of this makes sense - I did my best to explain it!

Not sure I fully understand what it is you're trying to do OP. If you want, send me the spreadsheet as a dropbox link or something and I'll have a go.

I'm pretty sure this is exactly what I'm trying to do.. Maybe i'm just a blockhead and was attempting it incorrectly.. Gonna give it a go now...

So just attempted, that doesn't get the result I'm looking for.. I'm trying to explain a little better, it's tough to phrase it right.

Basically, I have a category labeled in MOST of my 1 cells (F1,G1,K1, so on, randomly spaced out) with information in each of the columns, both under the category cell and to the right of it in the consecutive columns. So let's say B1 is labeled "Home care" and the next category is at F1 and is labeled "Renovations", then all of the columns between B1 and E1 are all under the category "Home Care"

AHHH Figured out the best way! I think just "grouping" the columns together and having a "manual filter" via the grouping button will work for my needs.

Thank you guys so much - sorry for being so complicated!!

Ha, no offence but you did a terrible job of explaining first time around - that picture wasn't doing any favours :p

Makes sense though, glad you got it figured out man.
