If I have a domain with 300,000 global monthly broad searches vs. only 100 or so exact searches, I guess I can still get fairly good rankings if the site is full of proper daily new keyword rich content as the domain is still keyword rich?

I wouldn't bother optimizing for that 100 exact matches, don't assume you will get even a small piece of the 300k broad searches...

Only thing that matters is exact match..

but back to your question yes you can rank anything but make sure you optimize for keywords worth optimizing, lol
