I've been thinking a lot about exact match anchor text and title tags. Its okay to have "Plumbing Services Chicago" as a title title, but its extremely difficult to write content with "Plumbing Services Chicago" as anchor text as this is grammatical incorrect. How much link juice would I lose if I were to have "Plumbing Services IN Chicago" as my anchor text knowing the title tag does not have the word IN in it? How much anchor text and title tag variation can there be?

Some input here would be great!

You should be alright. You won't lose juice because google knows how to read past a word lol :)

Chicago Plumbers is my niche, man. JK. You should be good, I have several (100+) local trades-related sites and it's always a good idea to shoot for conversion versus over optimization on your home page. let's be honest, it's not THAT competitive :)

I'm not targeting that keyword, I just used it as an example :)

so you guys are saying that if my title reads "Plumbers Chicago my anchor text can be Plumbers IN Chicago" and I will not lose any link juice?

"Plumbing Services Chicago" is exact match, "Plumbing Services in Chicago" is phrase match, you should be good. You could even use something like:

"Call us for all your plumbing needs. Services in the Chicago area are our specialty."

and you still hit a phrase match. As long as your keywords are in the right order, and are at least in the vicinity if each other, you will be fine.

Plumbing Services in Chicago is just fine. Write your content with things like these:

    Plumbing Services in Chicago
    Plumbing Services near Chicago
    Chicago Plumbing Services

Thanks for the input guys, but its not the content I'm that worried about. Its the anchor text.

Basically, I'm trying to ascertain if the "anchor text keyword" have to be an exact match to the "title tag keyword". How much variation is okay?

NO! People keep saying it's ok listen, phrase match has been shown to be even better. Don't worry about it.

Exactly. Especially if your links ratio is 10-15% for 1 exact phrase, I've been running tests where I've build naked and LSI links and my main phrase has been moving up in the serps. bottom line: exact phrase match doesn't matter like it used to.

If you are referring to the anchor text in incoming links, you need variations of the keywords as well as generic anchor text.

From the way you wrote the question, it seems like you mean content.
