Yes it works the same. I have several domains with hyphens matching the exact keyword and beating similar sites with no hyphen.

Good luck.

Really? I have the complete opposite experience... No hyphen always ranks way better with much less effort. Are you doing a lot more back linking to your hyphen websites that beat the exact match domain?

SEOmoz actually just done some analysis which compared the two. Their data showed what I've also seen - without hypen is much easier to rank

too much hypen can hurt your site. 1 to 2 is ok. but for me personally I would prefer just 1.

If you get an info than try and make it with out hypen. Use hypens for .com TLD becuase there is very hard to find a good domain with exact matching keywords.

for example:

i want to target the keyword "trash can". does www.trash-can.info works the same as www.trashcan.info ? which one is better if i want to rank on page 1 of google serp.

We see these posts here all the time. Hypens don't matter eitherway, as they are a placeholder for the domain. Doesn't hold any direct effect on the domain name other than when people are directly searching for it and typing it in to the search engine request bar.

Pick your domain, market it well and don't worry about little stuff like that. It holds no bearing on your end result of your seo.

EMD is without hyphens...

I tested 2 sites one was xxx-xxx-xxx.org and the other xxxxxxxxx.org, gave each the same backlinks from the same places, posted spun orignal content on each website..

the one without the hypens ranks 100 spots higher in google.
