    Hello,

After a bit of linkbuilding every keyword (20 or more) in the SERPS i used to rank for points to mydomain/sitemap.xml.

is this just the google dance? been like this for a month or so.

Just a litle bit of linkbuilding 10-20 links no blasts or anything

Did you point them there? How are your rankings?

if you didn't point the backlinks there, they shouldn't be going there.. simple
but if you didn't point them there, and they are in fact going there, then something went wrong in the commenting part... maybe your site is redirecting external links to the sitemap or something ? check your htaccess and the robots.txt

    Your site is working properly?
If it is getting redirected to the sitemap, then google can redirect the results also to that page....

Also, have you or anyone by mistake moved your site in Google Webmaster tools? Check that...

Check on Google Webmaster Forum and see if anyone else had this issue.
